ok so I may be buying a firebolt for a pretty nice price and I really like the look of the bikes with the firebolt rear and the lightning front end but I have only ever seen people do this with bikes that started out as lightings so i was wondering if anyone has put the lightning front on a firebolt and if so what all went in to doing this?

I think it will be a little more difficult because of all the electronics mounted up front on the bolt, maybe a wiring harness will be needed.

If you use the search you can find a ton of threads on it. The big issue is wiring, as the Lightning keeps most of the wires under the seat, while the bolt has them up in the front. It can be done, but it is a tight fit.

ok so searching it seems that you need to change the wiring harness so my question is one since this is a 2003 xb9r will a slightly newer harness for say a xb9sx work? and is the wireing harness all that hard to switch out? like am I going to have to drop the engine and stuff to get to it?

While trouble shooting an issue on my Bolt some time ago I stripped all the plastics off. There are a few tight spots but it didn't seem that you would have to drop the motor. I took a grey sharpie and marked both connections before I disconnected anything. I don't know what the S harness looks like but would figure it would be similar looking to the R. Lay them side by side and compare them. Worse comes to worse, you gotta put the R harness back in which you've labeled already. Wire is wire. You could possibly use the R harness and extend or shorten any wires needed. Just don't cut and tape. Use solder where needed.

If they insurance company totals my bike I'm going to try to get it back. This will be on my to-do list while rebuilding it.

well I asked because I just so happen to have a 2005 xb9sx wiring harness from what was going to be the bike I was going to build from the ground up but that never panned out and now I might be buying this 03 firebolt and I really like the looks of the "lightingbolts" so I may try this if I get it as I already have the wiring harness, a lighting ignition, and the top triple though I do not remember what year the top triple is so it may or may not fit the 03 forks.
