i have done all the other mods and im stuck on what exhaust to buy,i checked all the posts and im not looking for what everyone else is lookng for,i dont want a lot of noise or the h/d sound. my wants are 1 exhaust exit on bolth sides. 2 must use chin fearing. 3 want it to have a clean race sound (not too loud) like a ducati with a race exhaust. 4 to not spend 1.5 mil on it! . so far my options are to cut apart the stock pipe, hollow it out and put im stainless packing and weld up the back with 2 stainless tips..like drummer. i like the d&d pipe but it looks plain and seems too loud . A buell race exhaust..loud and hard to find. i seem to like the sebring exhaust,it has removeable silencers, looks great..but do not know what it sounds like . i know what pipes are the loudest and make the lost power but how about looks and sound quality?

The race pipe is the quietest of all the aftermarket pipes. Also, you will not get a Ducati sound out of an XB, you need an 1125 for that : )

Froggy I wouldn't say the race pipe is the quietest. I've got one on 9 thats barks a bit louder then my Drummer SS.

Well American Sport Bike's dyno shootout says:

MufflerPeak dB readingComments
Buell Stock XB9113110 db scale
Buell Stock XB12 116 110 db scale
Buell Race XB9 120110 db scale, peaked at 120 but barely
Buell Race XB12120
Drummer XB9122
Drummer XB12123
Drummer SS XB9121
Drummer SS XB12N/ADidn't record peak value, was quieter than most
Latus XB9124
Latus XB12123
D&D XB9 124Sustained, not just peak
D&D XB12124Sustained, not just peak
Jardine XB9122Apparent Volume was much louder
Jardine XB12123
Special Ops XB9 123
Special Ops XB12 123
Micron XB9 123
Micron XB12 123

So the race pipe is 1db quieter than the SS on the 9.

Froggy,

Dude I've had pretty much all of them over the years. Theres things that play into the factor of how loud they are. How old was the muffler tested. I know for a fact some were ran on bikes for quite some time. Others are brand new. They tend to get louder as they wear in. Alot of that testing I know who and even where some it took place. You can't look at that chart with complete accuracy.

I agree with Dana. The Race Pipe is louder than the Drummer SS.

I had the Ulybolt(with race kit, which was nearly brand new) & No_Rice's XB9 Drummer SS side by side. At Idle especially, the Drummer is quieter.

Not to mention that the SS that was used in that test was infact No Rices bike and Drummer SS.

Those are interesting observations. I think the SS is one of the few pipes I haven't (knowingly) heard in person. I had both the race pipe, Micron and the standard Drummer on my 12, and as Al's tests confirm, they are louder than the race pipe.

i was listening to all the sound clips on xb.com they showed most of the mufflers(but the sebring clip just was never raced up or did not say if the baffles were in or out) .but its not just quietness,im looking for sound quality, when a bike is reved the sound can either sound barkey like a big anoying fat boy or some have a smooth reving snappy sound, thats what im looking for ,but i still want the 2 exhaust exits, and to keep my fairing. but so far im thinking drummer.but would like to hear the hawk pipe. yes and to get a ducati sound ..i need a 1125 or just buy a ducati..but thats not what im looking for either.

Naah. My parking lot is still covered with ice.

And since I leave the house before it gets light, and leave after it gets dark for the past month+, I don't want to risk riding to or from work on icy streets.

I now have Jeffs 03worc9r's old ss drummer on my wifes bike, I also have a ss drummer on my xb12ss and they are both louder than the race can on my uly.

Micron's muffler offers desired outlets, high-quality mat'l, fit & finish.
System's exhaust tube finish is unique (flat paint?). It promptly scratched & scuffed-up in my use.
Sound is lovely & "non-harley". However any sense of stealth is lost.
Re-mapping ECM necessary.
And, like many valuable objects, they're out-of-production.

I agree on Micron $$. XB came to me with Micron installed. Noisiest street bike I've ever owned.
Now have a stock exhaust, but haven't installed it.
: )

i just do not want to spend $500+ on a pipe i dont like.

Unless you hear the pipes in person; that's the gamble you take...

I converted a stock muffler by gutting it, then installed an 18" Cherry Bomb glass pack muffler. Muffler looks totally stock; unless you know what you're looking for.
Cost $40 for the muffler and about $20 for lunch for the fab/welder guy.

Sounds good, louder than stock but not obnoxious.
Remap, such as it is, included square idle mod, change 02 sensor voltages .2v higher, lastly turned off the exhaust actuator.
