I'm contemplating purchasing a XB12Scg, but unfortunately can't find one in my area. There's a local dealer willing to sell a XB12R otd for 8300. I'm curious if it's possible to make this bike more comfortable, like the XB12Scg? If so, would it the cost make it not worth me buying the bike? Thanks. | ||

What part of the SCG makes it more comfortable? It is probably the worst in the lineup with comfort, especially with the poor excuse for a seat. If you want the lower suspension, you are looking at about a grand in (new) parts. | ||

I want to sit a bit more upright and the xb12r is not quite there. the ss and scg sit up more like the Triumph Speed & Street bikes, which I like. | ||

The SCG is a lower bike, and you will be sacrificing ride quality to get that upright position. If bar height is your only issue, there are easy fixes for that on the Firebolt. | ||

Some ideas to make the Firebolt more upright: handlebars: Put the late model "S" top triple and the "S" or cityx bars on it. If you go too high you might have to mod the faring and or faring stay. You might have to buy longer brake/clutch/throttle cables. I would not buy longer cables until you try the current set-up. pegs: Put on a set of "S" (1 inch drop) pegs | ||

Ronin, how tall are you? Where are you from? Did you check the Buell bike locator? I agree with you that the S/Scg models are more comfy than the R for long rides... upright/handlebar pretty much always beats forward/clip-ons in terms of comfort. | ||

I'm 6' tall. I looked at the locator, but any of the scg's around here want way too much for them compared to the r. I'm in Long Beach, CA. | ||

I'm about 6', and I think the Scg feels pretty cramped. My local dealer has a '10 Scg which I've sat on at least 15 times, and I can't bring myself to make an offer on it, just too scrunched for me. The XB9 city he has fits me much better - but I'm looking for a 12... | ||

Yeah at 6'the Scg will be too low for you... I am 5'9 and had to swap seat with an XB9, and raise the sub-frame a little bit to make it fit me. If I were you I'd look at the S model or an R... +1 to the handlebar + peg swap if you pick the R and are looking for more comfort. I thought Harley promised $5k back to each dealer able to sell a Buell? I guess these bastards around LA don't want to drop their prices anyway... I live in Long Beach too if you want to test a modded Scg  | ||

$5k on 1125's, $3k on XB. I have heard the XB9 was only $2k. Either way, its a rebate given to the dealer, they can choose to sell at MSRP and keep the rebate, or sell at a reduced cost and make up for it with the rebate. | ||

Idk, its been my handle since the 80's. Back then I was Froggy, but in the last 15 years or so everyone decided to steal it and name radio stations after it and such, so I often use Froggypwns too. Oh, I am about as Italian as Mario and Luigi. | ||

R with handlebars and lowered pegs will be much better then an SCG. An Ss seat may be better then the R but the SCG will be very low and have a rough ride compared to the R. I'd get the R... you might like the position but you can always do S pegs (or another dropped peg) and eventually look into swapping for handlebars. | ||

frank, i happen to like the low seat...i don't see what the big deal is. it allows me to move my dumb ass side to side quite nicely. | ||

yea I am 5'9" and will be posting an add come spring to swap suspension for a taller version. not that its too cramped (I even put on R pegs and clubman bars if that says anything) but I just don't need a lowered bike; I dont need to have both feet flat when stopped and the extra height will give me a little more corner clearance and suspension travel. (its when they are pushed together that it gets sketchy. like when the Michigan road seams and dislodged joints bottom you out mid corner.) also there are more suspension tuning options for the taller bikes. I think an older Ss would fit just fine, I especially recommend the new taller Ss or the TT. at 6' I would even suggest a Uly | ||

Thanks for the feedback. One last question. Since I'm going to go ahead and pick up the xb12r, how much different is the ride on the 1125CR? Should I stick with the xb or get the 1125cr? Which one is more comfortable? Thanks again. | ||

You would have to sit on it to see, but I find my 1125CR to be my most comfortable bike. Stock seat sucked, but swapped that out and I have done 3000 mile trips on it without even thinking twice. I put almost 7000 miles on mine since August, and its not even my daily ride. | ||

i think the cr is definitely more comfy, but i'm only 5'8". plus it has arm socket tearing power. the bolt, not so much. but the bolt most mere mortals will actually use most of the power. | ||

CR is comfortable with stock bars I am sure, pretty similar to XB... Clubmans are different, I have them on mine because I ride in the hills/track mostly but I love them. But thats a very different bike. Thats like comparing an SV650 to a liter bike (okay... minus the suspension flaws of the SV). Both will handle well, CR will be a bit more stable and more suited to faster turns but either will work fine but in the power department nothing will be similar. The XB is an 80-90 hp motor with a lot of torque. The 1125 is a liquid cooled rotax motor with similar torque to the XB's motor and a lot more power. | ||

Chippy... agreed... I feel I can totally exploit the XB's power on the street... And for most roads I feel that it is plenty of power (I think I'll be more happy when/if I get a custom dyno map made... just need a little more power down low)... At the track though I definetly find myself wishing for more... But that could be because Thunderhill (where I have been) is a fairly fast track, have yet to try Infinion (much more technical, lower top speeds, more in the XB's range)... It does make it more enjoyable to creep up on a 1198R Bayliss edition duc and pass them on my little "harley"  . | ||

It does make it more enjoyable to creep up on a 1198R Bayliss edition duc and pass them on my little "harley" compleately off topic for this thread, but i was hanging out at a friends house this past weekend, and my friends dad has a harley (idk what bike it is) and he used to give me all sorts of crap for riding the honda that i used to ride, well anyway hes like when are you going to get a real american made machine?, i just had to laugh. i told him i did, and showed him a picture of my bike i had on my phone, he looked at me and said those four cyl RR bikes arent made in america!....apparently he doesnt even know his own kind! |
