Hey folks,

Little background so you don't throw me to the wolves for being a "Buell Closing" buyer... I tested a Uly back in Aug and decided to buy. I was prepping my R1100GS for sale (to buy the Uly) and discovered an internal tranny bearing failure. Couldn't pass that on to the next guy so rebuilt the tranny. That put off my Uly purchase which I planned for next fall. Obviously the closing sent that plan to the trash can. However, I was THIS close to picking up my Uly on 1 Dec when a potential family "crisis" derailed that sale. My intent was to sell my DR650 and my R1100GS and just have the Uly. However, the used bike market is crap, I have a lot invested in the GS after the tranny rebuild, and was thinking of replacing the DR with an XB12Ss but haven't had a change to throw a leg over one. How are the ergos compared to the Uly?

It is more aggressive than the Uly with its lower bars and higher pegs, but it still is comfortable. You need to sit on it to see for yourself.

Froggy, you're right - I just wanted a quick "no way" or "Should be ok". I'm 6'2", btw. Since I'm keeping the GS, the Ss only needs to handle canyon rides and track days so I don't mind the more aggressive position.

Muise - thanks for adding your height, that helps a lot.

I'm 6'6 or 6'7" and I'm fairly comfortable. The only thing that sucks, is I look like a bear riding a tricycle.

Goes for any bike though. I think the only ones I probably look decent on are the huge 1000 sportbikes. But then again, I would never be caught dead on them, because my body would be thrown into a tree. Too much bike for me.

I'm 5'6" or 5'7" and I love my Uly. Does that help? Your just going to have to get in the saddle.

6'4", 38" inseam, fit great on and love my Ss. I felt crowded when riding with a passenger on the stock seat...but now I have the mack daddy of all touring seats for 2 up and the TT solo seat for riding alone.

6'3" here, i fit perfect on my Ss. I sat on a uly in the show room and felt like it was too tall for me. Maybe because i felt like a ninja throwing my leg over the attached luggage.

Ourdee - yeah, that helps... I tell you what, I always thought being 6'2" was a big advantage until the motorcycle bug bit me. Makes it tougher all around - street and dirt.

I will go back and sit on both again - I really thought the Uly fit well but there are things I like about the straight XB as well. Also seems like I'd end up with two relatively similar bikes with the Uly and GS, whereas the Ss would definitely have a different personality. Appreciate all the help guys.

Fit on the bike is all about inseam...I'm all leg so that's where I usually get cramped up. On the standard S my knees are rubbing the frame pucks...

Miami, great point. My inseam is 34"; generally I have to find a tall seat or have a taller seat made. Hate lowering the pegs and taking away ground clearance. I know a guy in San Diego who does custom seats and is great, so I know I can always get another inch or two that way.

I need to take some pics of the seat I just got from Baldwin seats...it along the lines of a touring seat, but made custom to me. It is crazy comfortable, sits me up a few inches higher, and lets me add a backrest for my wife! It is very nice and Loren is a great guy to deal with!

So, the Uly TT seat fits our bike and raises it a bit? I'd like a little higher to give me more leg/knee.

I keep getting mixed responses, didn't think the Uly seats fit SS's. I thought they were split seats with luggage or something.

The Uly seats do not fit the Ss...but the TT solo seat does fit, that's what I ride when without a passenger. It does raise you up a little and is very comfortable...really nice seat for not a lotta cash.}

I'm assuming since the TT seat is an OEM seat it is still available? I remember the parts guy telling me that accessories will start drying up but OEM stuff should be no problem.

The SS and STT use the same seats, NOT THE ULY! : )

It should still be available, if not, ask in the classifieds.

Froggy, are you saying the tall seat is already on the SS or just that it should fit the SS? Thanks.

i think what froggy is saying is the Ss and STT use the same seat pan... so an Ss seat will fit the STT and vice versa, but the stock seats are not the same ones.

Right...Ss comes stock with a 2up seat, STT comes stock with a solo seat. The seats are interchangeable with each other, and the STT solo seat is a little taller.

There are 4 OEM seats available for the SS/STT.
The SS stock seat (2up)

The STT stock Urban Assault solo seat

The touring seat

The sport seat.

After looking at Froggy's pix, it's hard to figure out why the STT is considered a solo seat, and the Ss is "2 up". Neither of them look any different relative to their ability to handle a passenger.

It looks equivalently uncomfortable in either case...

The solo seat has 0 padding back there, it is just cover on plastic, also, do the lack of a grab handle for the passenger, it does not comply with DOT regulations for 2 up.

If you ignore the imprinted emblem on the tail of the solo seat of a 2up rider with a circle and line through it, sure, you could carry a passenger just fine. The STT came stock without passenger pegs as well though, so that could be an issue...

Having ridden both...the solo seat is by far more comfortable, especially since with the length of my legs I was sitting on the strap of the 2up seat...

Heh, I would make the same argument about the stock Ss seat having zero padding back there...
