Top speed on a xb12 is 137.3mph pre-08, 143.4 on 08+ models.

1125R was just under 180mph (177?), I don't have a gear ratio calculator in front of me.

dwight- i only hit 159. when i started the incline and it held there it but didn't go any faster. and last week it was 150 with cara on the back. i'd use the GPS to confirm, but it looses signal in the tunnel.

as a side note: i dunno how much the slope of that tunnel helps (if at all), but i'd think that those kinda speeds are more affected by wind resistance/drag, hence the lower speed with a passenger.

but back on topic, ive been passed by 12's when i saw 130~ish, and i'd say they were going 10-15 faster than i was.
so +1 to 140~ish

-man we sound like a bunch of squids-

lets just say it's not worth a 6 hour trip, so you don't have to worry about it. and it's nothing special, really. it's just that there's no cross-winds, or rain, eye's in the sky can't peer down upon you, and cops can't park on the side of it with radar guns.... however they can and have sat on either ends.
but the middle is still fair game!

Are you sure there aren't eyes in that tunnel? If there are they could measure between each camera and work out a timing for the different speeds, or paint some marking within the field of view of the camera. If they really want they can measure the tunnel from entrance to exit and time your complete journey. In this time of budgetary hurt, don't be surprised if this happens.

i'm familiar with the joys of tunnel riding. just curious where this one is.....long enough for a 12 to reach those speeds but what about traffic? The tunnels I know of on the way up to WV are long enough, but just way too much traffic.

It's a great feeling though.... suddenly almost no wind resistance when you enter the tunnel.

I am with Froggy 100% on the xb12 data.

rpm related to tire diameter related to hp and air drag = speed. This means your fixed at these speeds he posted. To go faster you change stuff.

on a dyno I can produce speeds a bit higher with gear changes but the bikes will not do it on the road if you push it to far. You actually loose speed. to go faster put the bike and yourself on a diet. add hp and rpm to the engine. match the gearing to the bike with the riders weight. Then it will peek out but dont look to get crazy fast speeds out of the Xb bikes.

greg,
i am waaay ahead of you, bro. i spotted the cameras with my keen eye, and i am sure i can blind them with my awesomeness, so cameras are a non-issue.

and armed with such awesomeness, i am able to turn ANY 1125 into a time machine. so they can measure the tunnel from entrance to exit and time your complete journey all they want but will be dumbfounded when they get a negative number.

i will turn your 1125 into a time machine for ellevendy-million dollars. ... ... i know, i know; i'm not a badweb sponsor .. YET!
i will pay blake as soon as i receive payment from my first customer.

in all seriousness, that is where i feel most comfortable exceeding the speed limit. i do appreciate your words of caution, and i do not try to make a habit of flagrant disregard for the law and safety.

Spacecapsule,
traffic is nonexistent at midnight in the middle of the week. and there's tunnels aplenty in the hampton roads area. from what ive seen of WV, there's far better roads to ride then tunnels, but it is nice to 'stretch them legs' once in a while

so we've all agreed that an XB12R will top out in the area of 140 MPH, right?
okay, then;

Well my XB9 has 'indicated' 137, so figure what everyone is saying to be about perfect?

GRR!! I had the privilege to ride through a tunnel 1 time. It was friggin sweet.

135 on my stock XB12scg, proof was on the sherrifs laser gun. It was only a 300 hundred dollar ticket. 135 in a 50, I'm lucky I wasn't cuffed and hauled off.

If you got caught in Florida going 135 in a 50...you would be in jail....and your bike would go on the auction block...

Fast, take no offense in this, but I have visited your state once, I have a coworker who moved here from Orlando 2 years ago (lived his whole life there, 35y/o) and I hear things all the time about Florida that make me think more and more that alot of stuff in your state sucks.

No offence Kustom...it is beginning to suck here...but it sucks less than other places and my roots are deep...Yah just gotta know where you can play and where you can't...

I'm willing to put up with a certain amount of crap in exchange for the weather and the cost of living.

And my XB12s will go at least 130...I haven't fully aired it out yet.

300mph with the right gearing and conditions.......what a futile thread.

It will not go 300mph under it's own power with a relatively stock engine no matter the gearing you use. You would need to have a 100+ mph tail wind to get even close to that.

And you can not run it in a vacuum either, needs air for combustion so don't bother throwing that one out as an option.

I bet it won't even hit 300mph if you drop it out of a plane at 10,000 feet. Might hit 200, but I bet there is too much drag to hit 300.

Greg is right. Terminal velocity of a human falling to earth is ~164mph give or take. The XB would hit roughly 200, perhaps less.

LoL

Consider that in order for the BUB 7 to set a new land speed record on a motorcycle of 367mph, it needed a custom built 3L V4 engine and super aerodynamic bodywork to drop its drag coefficient down to .08
No clue what the LSR on a Buell is, but I bet a stock Busa can still give it a run for the money.

So who is going to push one off a plane to find out what terminal velocity is in a free fall from 10,000 feet?

Suffice it to say that a tweaked liter bike from just about anywhere will be over all faster. Might be better with a full fairing and optimized gearing for whatever "track" you might be running on.

You can find out its terminal velocity using a home made wind tunnel, but thats going to require a lot of fans to lift the bike and simulate a free fall.

Thats how it was for me, I got to 120 and it's like 'c'mon, c'mon, I wont hit 135 till next Christmas' but I did, and when I did I had definitive proof. Whats great it I had my old plates from my old bike on my Buell which were off of a 2007 honda shadow750, so dispatch said it was exactly that. The sheriff luckily though didn't know his motorcycles, so he thought it was a shadow and I wasn't going to correct him. Then when I went to pay the ticket, the guy at the desk goes '135 on a honda shadow? What the hell did you do to that thing> I lied and said I swapped the 750V for a 1300 and bored out the 1300 and ran it off of 120 aviation fuel. He believed it too.

Last I remember that max speed a human can go on a motorcycle with having it be enclosed was like 250MPH cause after that you act like a wing and POOF you're on the ground and your bikes half a mile from you. Thats why they never figured out that Dodge Tomahawk V12 motorcycles top speed, it was simply stated as 250+. Am I correct on this?

Theironmaiden22...

My bike wont pull past 120 like it does from 80 but its not much slower, and my bike is an Ss (naked).

It pulls pretty cleanly to an indicated 130... thats where it gets gutless.
