I want drop pegs for my Firebolt and I was scared out of stock Lightning pegs from numerous threads here. I've been looking at the Knight Designs pegs. Anyone have pictures of them on their bike? Any feedback on different designs? I was originally going to go with the Sidetrax, but I found a set of crossmax rear pegs for a great price. I'm thinking of getting the crossmax or crossmax taper to match. |

What scared you away from the stock pegs? I wouldn't mind some drops and a heli bar kit on my Firebolt for comfort reasons, but what have you read about the stock? Just curious. |

Yeah, what scared you? Many many FB riders here run Lightning pegs... |

I run the stock Lightning pegs, and the touring seat. Gave me the extra leg room that my 6'3" body was looking for. |

The stock cast pegs are brittle. Reading some of the threads here (search "stock pegs broke"), you'd think they'd break if you sneeze on them. A lot of people have them break from tip overs and bumping into things (garage doors, walls, pipes, etc.) That makes sense though; like someone mentioned in other threads, the U shape is very strong with forces straight down (standing on them) but besides that they are weak. The pegs are designed for weight savings. I haven't seen too many posts about this newer than 2006 (besides the my bike tipped over and the stupid cheap pegs broke.) Either people stopped posting about them or it could have been a bad batch of castings. Several people warn that if you stand up on the pegs, be sure it's close to the base incase they snap. I don't think there were any reports of them breaking just from standing on them though. I'm probably just being paranoid. I had a peg snap off on my X1 while I was standing up over a monster pothole (which also smashed my friends tail light.) I don't know how I didn't go down or the billet peg didn't bounce up and kill someone in the group I was riding with. I put on the select seat that my buddy didn't use. It seemed to give me a little more room. I didn't take any extended trips yet though. The black anodized billet pegs are sexy though. **edit** I know tons of people have been using the Lightning pegs. My friend used them for about a year with no issues. They lasted better than his clip ons, steering stabilizer and eco-axle sliders after his accident. I can tell the previous owner tipped the bike on both sides. 1 feeler is missing, but both have scratches. They will survive some tip-overs. $30 shipped for the stock Lightning pegs is very tempting on ebay. I'm still on the fence if $75 for the billet ones is worth the piece of mind. Stock pegs are the same and you're living with them now. I use the lower pegs and feel they make a huge difference in comfort. For the record: 1. Seller broke stock bumping into garage door on day of sale, he says. Took $50 off the price. It's a $27 part. 2. Bike walked off stand idling and fell over. Peg did not break. 3. Bike and I did a somersault in an intersection. Peg broke. PS: Lightning pegs are cheaper when you buy the pair as a set. |

The stock pegs WILL NOT break from you standing on them. But they are designed to break easily in a tip over. $10 to replace a peg, vs who knows how much to replace broken footpeg mounts, possibly damaged frame, etc. Similar to a crumple zone in a car, the peg (usually) saves the rest of the bike. |

Are there any available that have the rubber tops and the one inch drop? I have an 06 that has a cracked peg right now and most likely will be replaced. Tipping is part of life and I had an 04 that lowsided on the right without sustaining any peg damage, but could have been the way it fell. I will have to see, but I think even the Uly pegs are solid metal and no rubber also. Had an FZ1 and it made a difference on the way your feet feel after a good amount of time in the saddle. I would feel sick if I paid extra for the Billet and they cracked just as easily, but who knows? |

The 1125R pegs have rubber on them, but they do not have a 1" drop. |

I have the LSL footpegs with the 1" drop base from American Sport Bike and I love them. You can see the 1" drop base in the Related Items below. Here's the link. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/16066.html |

$99 for the base and $29 for the pegs versus $25 for the Buell set. $128 vs. $25. Tough call. Still your call though. |

I have the Knight Design 1" drop pegs. They are great, no complaints and the people are great. I actually damaged a peg and they sold me one instead of making me buy two with no hassle. will see if I can find some pics. If you like I can mail you the damaged peg so you can see it in person before you buy, but you will buy them I promise. BTW I have run other pegs and these are the best I have bought. bart |

on some of the other forums I'm on a lot of guys are buying the Buell pegs so they can put them on their sport touring rides. (or super-sport bikes for a better riding position.) All I can say it that if the non Buell riders are even using the lightning pegs it must be for a reason. and like Froggy said I would rather snap a peg off than break something expensive and hard to replace. |

I have a set of the 1" drop pegs that I would consider trading straight up for a set of non-drop pegs. Shoot me an email if interested. jtrutkiewicz@hotmail.com |

LSL 1" drop pegs? I run them, American Sport Bike has them, LOTS of grip compared to OEM (which didn't hold my boot at all)... |

Ouch! Mndwgz, hope you're alright! What happened? Looks like some oil got out and pretty hard. Something explode and get oil on your tires? |

Wifey hit some dirty road and the front washed out. Primary ripped apart at the shift lever and dumped the oil. First estimate is $2k for repairs and she's out $700 for her gear; pics in the show your helmet thread. I was about a 100ft in front of her and another bike about the same distance behind. She was standing by the time he got stopped. She's got a multicolored butt and is still really pissed off about the whole incident. Sheriff and paramedics were there right away and were really good, it didn't even raise her blood pressure. |

2k in repairs? Must be a solid gold cover. $220 retail for new cover, plus about $50 for new shifter stuff. Even with labor it still would be about the same as a $500 deductible. What other damage wast there? I can see the turn signal lens broke, thats another whopping $2. |

Froggy, all the plastic on the left side and middle except for the airbox cover. Some of the parts... left frame puck 49.95, M1224.5AEMBX 239.00, bars, mirrors, levers, grips, seat... total parts $1058.60, "clean up" 347.75, labor 553.36, and there are a few things on the list I know they missed, like primary oil. Geico's appraiser still hasn't contacted us. Wifey thinks the rear end locked up when she was shifting down to 4th. Anybody hear of that happening before? She knows what she's doing on a bike and can't figure the reason why she went down. She wasn't on the brakes yet. The guy behind her couldn't tell what happened either. |

Note clean right side. That's a lot of dirt for asphalt.

Looks like the axle slider did what it was supposed to. Bummer for your lady man! That's a nice looking bike...on the right side! Glad she's ok. I've been there where I'm not sure how I went down. You keep playing it in your head to find out what really happened and so far for me, it's still a mystery |

Personally if possible I would just take a check and fix it myself, I would love to get paid $300 to wash my bike Glad she is ok. As for the lockup, its possible she down shifted hard and on the loose surface it broke traction. I wasn't there, so its just my speculation based on your posts. |

$7.95 ebay skateboard wheels, $15.00 for threaded rod, nuts, some plastic tube and a dremel cut-off wheel = saved forks & swingarm. I found this in the big, bad & dirty section: "I chopped the throttle as someone did a lane change right in front of me. Unfortunately, there was fresh gas on the road at that exact point, and loading the front end that much put me on the ground in an instant. Never even touched the brake." She's not the only one. BTW, sorry for the highjack Blackandchrome. |
