I went riding with several sport bikes a couple weeks back and took a picture of all the bikes lined up at the diner. The thing that stuck out to me in the picture is that the XB was the only one with bunny ears for mirrors. Are there any lower profile mirrors, that fit in the stock location and still function? I use my mirrors a lot and don't want to loose any visibility. Please post options with pics if available.

Tuono mirrors. All other mirrors suck, period. Don't bother with bar ends, they look stupid and out of place, and are the first thing to brake when you dump it.

...which is completely opinion of course! (and a wrong one, might I add : p) I happen to find the Tuonos goofy looking and out of place on the Buells. I love the look and functionality of my CRG bar ends. To each their own!

I guess you are not talking about the stock mirrors on the R bikes. I think they are just about worthless for trying to look behind you. But you can see those dead bugs on your arms great!

I like the look of the Tuono mirrors better then the stock. I would get bar end mirrors but I already have bar end weights. They help the vibrations on long trips so I don't want to get rid of them.

they can bolt onto your bar end weights, my CRG lane splitters use a clamp style.. but out of curiosity what weights do you have?

I got the small HMVP bar ends. I had them powder coated black, they work great at keeping my hands from going numb on long rides and look like they came on the bike.

I have the above Mircycle mirrors on my XB-S. They work, but just barely. I have to squeaze the grip as hard as I can to dampen the vibration enough to decipher anything in them.

My XB-X will be getting Tuono Mirrors. I loved them on my Cyclone.

Just another option ... found them online last year for $40, and they have built in LED signals. Check my profile for a pic from the other side.

@Roysbuell- You can find a local machinist to turn a groove into your bar ends for the crg's. I did this on my guzzi. Cost me a six pack and a couple hours swapping lies with a local bike nut/machinist. This was taken right after I got it done, they have since been painted.

Piotr12 - I got them from 'sporting4less' on eBay a year ago for under $50 shipped. Found them now for twice the price at:

Hey Captcaz, do they vibrate less than the stockers? And how bright are the LEDs in the daylight?

@ Captcaz- how easy/hard is it to wire up the mirrors properly? Also, do they mount without any modifications to the stock mirror collets?

Piotr12 - Glad you found them at a reasonable price ...

Billyo - Much less vibration than the stockers, and only annoying at WOT and idle. They are pretty bright if you're looking head on, but off axis in the daytime, they are a little weaker (note in the pic - I put some small sigs in the stock spots so folks can see me from the sides and at intersections) ... dusk/night is pretty bright.

Grianp - They screw right into the mounts on the bars with no mods. The wiring is pretty easy, but the wires are fairly thin (22 or so gauge), so I ran them thru the wire sheaths for the control wires into the space under the flyscreen so they were protected.

All/anyone -
1) the wires are thin! A pain to get a good connection on regular crimp fittings. Protect them somehow ...!
2) You can't mount the them upside down so that the rounded section of the mirror is on the top. I thought about doing it so that the angled 'top' would line up aesthetically with the handguards ... but it makes the lens for the LEDs point at the ground instead of traffic.
3) The finish on the mirror and it's housing are fine, but the rods going to the bars have some surface rust already.
4) Is it me and my '03, or are the mounting holes on the controls angled differently for left and right sides??? I spent an hour adjusting the angled rod on the mirror so that I could see what I wanted to see, while making them look like they were symmetrical ... good news though - lots of ways to adjust them, and once set, they stay in place.

Hope this helps ...

I like the bar end mirrors on the lightning. With the convex mirror the field of view is much better too, and you don't look right at your elbow. I have the cheap CRG impostors off of ebay. They work great for less than a third of the price. I actually think they look better, the color doesn't fade, and the mirror has more retaining tabs than the crg's, but no lane splitter option

I'm a barrend guy myself, but if you don;t like barrends, I don't think there is anything nicer that Rizoma:

Another vote for Rizoma. I went with the Dynamic mirrors. For as much as some people love the bar ends, I think they look just as awful as the mickey mouse ears. They look out of place to me.

Everyone has their own opinion on this LOL!Just my $0.02!

I thought these would look really good on a Buell - they are Rizoma style, but this guy found Triumph models for less than the Rizoma - but they look exactly alike. I have since seen them on ebay as well - maybe british ebay site, though.... anyway, check out the look, and there's also a link to a how-to on this page:
