I am looking into getting some saddle bags for my XB12ss. I want good stable bags that do not move around especially flogging the bike in the mountains. Decent size for some touring,I like the semi rigid chase harper, firstgear onyx & silverstone, nelson rigg ssc-150. I would like a saddle bag that is detachable from the mount but can do without. Also the bags have to look good on the bike, and will not cover up my flush mounted signals mounted in the stock location. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, Dean

I have the buell panniers they attach on pretty secure and expand nicely you can also attach the soft top bag and you will have plenty of space. Some people have said they had quality issues though I have not they hold together great.I flogg my machines believe me I flogg em good. They also pop off in about 5 seconds so sometimes I get where I'm going and take em off till its time to go home

Yea I read also about the quality issue, thats why I was mostly considering non Buell bags. Brumbear is there any clearance issues with the Buell saddle bags with the rear turn signals in stock location.
Thanks, Dean

My rear signals ('06 Ss) are a little pushed around by the rear of the bags, but there is a dimple indent in the rear of the bags that is meant to accommodate the indicators. I'm sure you could find some bags that would be as good as the Buell bags, but you do have the option to put the Buell top bag on top of the saddlebags and clip it on securely. A plus for carrying more stuff easily w/ no rack, etc. 3 bags back there plus a tank bag, and you have some serious storage, for a non-touring streetfighter bike!

I like the Buell bags and a plus for the trunk bag.I do not really like tank bags plus being only 5'4" tall, I probably could rest my chin on it, its more in my way. My main concern was the quality issue and the rear turn signals. Fahren you said that the bags pushed around the signals do you think that since I have flush mounted signals mounted in the stock location that the bags may block the signals?
Thanks, Dean

We carry the complete line of Cortech luggage. They fit quite well on the SS.

Cortech: ooooooooooo - niiiiiiiiice!

Dean, I don't know what flush-mounted signals look like, so I couldn't tell you. Got a picture?
I also have no idea, since I didn't buy them myself, if the bags I have are really the Ss-appropriate set, or if they are for a plain S. The buell bags I have only pushed the blinkers around once I cinched up the bags to be as tight as I could make them while still (barely) able to get my key into the seat release.

Here are a couple of pictures of my bike that shows the stick-on flush mount signals.

Well, if you cinch the bags in really tight, then those signals should still be visible from rear and probably to the side as well, at least straight from the side. Such a conflict to have a nice tidy tail and no passenger pegs (which by the way will be needed to mount the Buell Bags :-(
then to put on the practical but ugly saddlebags. Oh well. Stuff gotta be carried.

I am totally digging the rear fender extention, is that a custom made part, or a readily available bolt on aftermarket part? Also have you checked out Dowco's "fastrax elite" series of bags? they are quite hot, and have color match panels.

first pic is with bottom expanded, second is not

You have options, between Cortech, the ones mentioned on the threads above, and even a Ventura system, that would allow you to forego the passenger pegs.

Waterproofness is a consideration. Buell Bags are not w'proof.

I made the finder extension from an inner-finder off of a I think GSXR I found at a motorcycle junk yard paid $15.00 for it. Same junk yard I got my CBR954RR front brake master cylinder/lever assembly.

Isn't there a company, it might be European based but they make hard saddlebags. Probably glass fibre I think so they're hard versus the 'hard' bags that are really stiff rubbered neoprene. I'm doing research at the moment so unless someone can beat me to the answer I'll try and post it as fast as I can.

The mirrors are Pig Spotters and they have a convex shape, you can see the cars beside you and 3-4 lanes over.

Were those hard to install? Seems like they just bolted on the flyscreen. Looks like they work a thousand and one times better than the stock antennae mirrors.

IF you look at the Cortech bags and the Buell bags side by side, or at least study them both pretty good. I think you will realize that Cortech makes the Buell bags. I really figured this out when looking at the top bag. They are identical. So much that I don't think it could be a copy. The only difference is the cortech also has the bungy attachment, and the rubberish removable base that would protect a bike if the bag was resting on plastic, not a seat.

X5th as you can see in the last pic I had to fabricate an extended bracket for my setup, since I welded on some clip-ons at the front of the top tree. I fabricated the bracket out of a set of carbon fiber soles from a pair of old cycling shoes. The viewing coverage looking into the mirrors are amazing especially directly to either side. The mirrors never vibrate and the only draw back is you cannot see as far directly behind you as with regular mirrors. They take awhile to get use to because of the extreme side view angle but there are not any blind spots at all.

AS for the bags I have decide to go with a
T-Bag magnetic tank bag. I will use it as a tail bag and fabricate my own quick-release. I decided to do this because tank bags have a more rounded aero shape and just look better than all of the tail bags or saddle bags I have seen. The T-Bag expands out to a 38 liters. This so do the trick for my intentions. I will post some pictures once I get done.

Definitely one-of-a-kind man, I'm getting around to getting clip-ons, I have some CR clubmans but I like the lean angles of low ass clip-ons like Woodcrafts that bolt below the triple tree.

Yea I like to be able to get low especially at high speeds and on the twisties. I use to do some racing back in the mid 90's on my CBR900RR. Bought the Buell because I wanted a v-twin and something different. Then I had to make her special and my own. Attached is a front on view of her showing off her Teeth, Vortec inducers I installed in her scoops and one in the velocity stack. Swirling air gets into all of the nook and crannies that straight air goes bye without saying hello.

I received my T-BAG Magnetic Tank Bag yesterday. The bag looks good and sets very well on the tail of the seat. The small side flaps drape over the side of the seat real nice and do not extend further down than the seat rails. The whole bag and the side panels have a real nice and soft gripe bottom that will help hold the bag in place. I am in the process of fabricating a real fast and secure mounting system. I know what I want to do and I know it will work. When I get done I will take some pictures and post them. For your information T-Bags has this bag on close-out was $150.00 I purchased on T-Bags web site for $88.00,nice well made bag with Lifetime Warranty.
