I'm thinking about buying a new exhaust for my bike, but I have a question. If I go for an exhaust that requires modification to the original, should I keep a stock exhaust around? I'm just curious what you guys have done....

Are there benefits of having a stock exhaust laying around if I don't plan on selling the bike in the future?

Thanks,
Nick

Search function will get you some results. American sportbike did a good shootout on buell exhaust systems.
it boils down to how loud you want to be and how much hp you want to make. they all give a gain.

That wasn't really my question, but thanks for replying.

Around here, if the police cite you with illegal exhaust, you have to bring your bike in to have it inspected if you want to keep your registration valid. Having the stock exhaust handy would be a big help in that situation.
If they're not as strict where you live, then sell it to help offset the cost of the aftermarket exhaust.

make ur own and save the stocker. mine cost 120 bux.
on youtube look at skeeterbuggy's videos and you will see my xb9s .
my brackets broke and i re welded them and it is all good now.on mine i used a 2 in 90 degree elbow and a streetrod muffler.it keeps the sound low at constant throttle and is less noisy while driving and stupid loud at WOT.
the obvious advantage is you can try many types of muffler.i used a 3 in band clamp and my source will sell and ship to you the muffler, clamp and elbow if you wish.pm me if you want his contact info.he is in the denver area and does streetrod roll cages and custom exhaust.my muffler is a magnaflow universal 2 in and out with one end offset.

If your not gonna sell the bike and your pretty sure the aftermarket pipe will not be too loud or irritating or etc...

send your stocker in for some magic!

I run a special ops and love it! Also have a race can as backup if i decide to lower the noise level.

But I really like the special ops pipe!
I never plan on selling my XB, so I don't have a stock pipe anywhere....

Add me to the list of happy Special O.P.S customers. I sent mine off while the bike was down and do not have or need another muffler.

I would never sell this bike.

I keep my stock exhaust around just incase smog laws change, or I get tired of it being loud. But I bought A used Drummer so it wouldn't have saved me much to send it in or sell it.

+ 1000 for the spec ops. I got it. sounds great and you can still use it like a stock one. It all really depends on you.

@Kenney83

What do you mean "you can still use it like a stock one?" Do you mean all of the mounting points remain?

Thanks,
Nick

The first pic is of the chin fairing back on, and the second is the duel outlets. mine is a 9R. Odie is a great guy to do business with.

The pics don't do it justice. Odie gives the whole muffler a new paint job and it seems to hold up well. The stock muffler comes with a paint job that is prone to rust.
Odie's don't do that and they look very nice.

Voodoo shut down? I heard they were one of the best pipes to get, comparable to a SpecOps even. I was even going to get one, I guess Odie will have another customer, unless someone on here has one they want to sell then I'll gladly take if off of their hands, for a cost of course.

Nick, when you get it back on, post a comment about your reaction. I expect you will be incredibly pleased with your decision. Perma-grin is just a throttle twist away.
