Super durable Black powdercoat on mine, no rust and shines up very nice when I wash it.

Maybe a dumb question but is rust covered under warranty?

I've had the muffler on my wife's CityX replaced under warranty because of rust. But YMMV.

Depends on the dealer. Some cover it, some wont.

"Depends on the dealer. Some cover it, some wont."

That seems strange. Does that mean that dealers who do a rusty muff replacement under warranty pay for it out of their own pocket? My general experience with mfg warranty replacement is that the mfg determines what is covered, not dealer. I do recall an instance where a BMW dealer did pay for some parts and repairs
themselves as a customer loyalty/satisfaction deal because BMW rejected.

Yes the manufacturer determines what is covered. If the dealer even thinks there is a chance something won't be covered, they won't risk putting their neck on the line. It is all case by case, dealer to dealer and such.

mine was replaced under warranty. One dealer told me they were "waiting" for the "warranty person" so meanwhile I took my bike to another dealer and had the entire exhaust system replaced under warranty because of rust. needless to say, the new exhaust system is rusting faster than the old one.
