My brother and I bought 2 new XB12XT's. We'll be doing all the service and maintenance on these bikes and want to stock up on consumables. We bought a case of Wix filters so far. What other parts, gaskets and stuff should we purchase for the 1000 mile service (and beyond). Thanks | ||

The first thing I did is buy the service manual. It's 60 bucks last time I checked. It is worth it. Some small stuff would be tranny inspection window gasket and clutch cover gasket. O-rings for the drain plugs, loctite for some of the bolts. I use loctite red 571, although you can use the medium grade blue stuff if you want. The book also calls for pipe thread sealant for the drain plugs. Later on, clutch cable lube in a spray can, although I haven't used any yet. Also anti seize lube for the spark plugs. | ||

Boltrider, i would strongly recommend the you also buy a bottle of blue, red is for parts you will not be diassembling again(you hope)blue will hold tight and will not need to be heated to remove. this will save yourself and others a lot of grief down the line | ||

Both throttle cables clutch cable wheel bearings fork seals fork oil valve stems drive belt headlight bulbs front isolator Drive belt and isolator might take a while for a dealer to get for you, thats why I listed them. | ||

Bobbuell - That's true but all I've been doing is using a small dab of it. I used the red stuff at work for a number of years, just in small amounts. My chin fairing bolts have been on and off many times without any issues. However I do agree that blue is plenty strong for the task and is "safer" than the red stuff.
