Pulling up to a red light after a pretty long ride. I let go of the bars in 2nd gear to stretch my hands and caught a grove in the pavement. My ass hit the road quicker than Debbie in the Dallas locker room....

My brother was riding next to me. He pulled the bike up while I tried to answer the phone that was ringing in my ear.

Not nearly as good a story as many in thread, but here it is:
Nearly dropped the Uly I was test riding right in front of the dealership (much taller than my Lightning, you know). After a bit of a clumsy save, proceeded to whip out the clutch in what I thought was neutral, killing it oh-so-gracefully. I did manage to remain upright, but not without looking like I just learned how to ride last week, rather than the early 70's.

I might have provided one for someone else, though. I can't imagine that that guy on the 1125R at the last track day I attended was happy when I passed him on my bone-stock XB9S...

This may be misguided justification on my part, but I think being nervous and looking like an idiot on a bike you're not familiar with is a sign of being a mature rider, whether you're experienced or not. I was just like Jsg4 the first time I rode a Uly. What is that.. like a 4 inch seat height increase from my X1 I think? Anyway I wasn't used to the location of the clutch's friction zone (see - I listen at MSF) wasn't used to the height, where the CG is, etc. Oh well, I'd much rather look foolish via some low speed wobbling and jumpy clutchwork rather than look cool while I'm being too brave and end up dropping someone else's bike.

Jsd4... as to the track comment... Happens all the time.

In a straight the faster bike will always (unless the guy is just a chicken ahaha) win but in the corners a faster bike has zero advantage, its all about the rider.

When I took my stock 12 to the track I was passing liter bikes in the corners, but then I was also getting passed by 250's in the corners ahaha.

The one picture that always sticks in my head is coming out of turn 14/15 at Thill. 14 is a very tight almost decreasing radius right turn off the back straight in which you trail break heavily, its leads into 15 which is a more open right turn that you can really power out of hard right up to the curb on the left. Anyways for several laps I was riding behind a Ducati 1098, wicked fast bike. Every time we got to turn 14 off the back straight I would catch back up to him, then as we ented turn 15 I would be getting on the gas hard while he was still at a neutral throttle. As we both exited the corner (him on cruise control, me near WOT) I would gain and be just a few yards behind him, then as soon as he got his Italian rocket perfectly perpendicular with the ground he would just disappear.

I had been trying to figure out which story to print but seeing as how I can't decide wich is worse, here's all of them;

On a trip to Maine, Uly loaded to the hilt. It starts to rain. I dip off the highway to don my rain gear. Perfect, an abandoned building with a covered ground level loading dock. Hurry up and get under the roof before you get too wet. Okay, I'm under the roof, great. Forget to put gearbox in neutral/or miss neutral and put it into 1st or 2nd gear...I don't remember. There you have it, me and my Uly both laying on the ground under the roof of the abandoned loading dock right...Wrong...apparently it was only abandoned by humans, the pigeons were quite well represented by the mountains of turd me and the Uly were laying in. Okay let's get the bike back up and regroup. No that's not gonna happen because your wet bike just slides around in the pigeon sshhiitttt when you try to right it. Soooo, in the end I had to push, pull, slide, and drag my sshhiitttt plastered Uly to the wall and damn near rupture myself getting it back up on two wheels. The final insult...I was too effin' stupid to take a picture of me and my Uly plastered with pigeon sshhiitttt. Good thing it was raining to clean us both up. I'll check in later with some of the other stories, I'm all typed out right now.

Most embarrassing moment on the XB? I have a somewhat steep driveway and as I was leaving to go to work, I looked in the mirror and realized the garage door was not going down (the remote is in my left pocket)...so I stop, put my left foot down as I peer over my shoulder...however the XB decides to lean to the right (right foot still up of course) and before I could get my leg down...down goes the Buell. I did get my leg somewhat out, but the frame caught the back of the thigh and proceeded to knock my ass down too. My oldest saw this, and between fits of laughter helped right the bike. I decided that "f' the bike, I'll cage it. I turned the bike around, headed back into the garage with both feet in the down position, hit the front brake and of course the lever fell into my hands. The wife still grills me about the dent in the freezer and I keep paying the boy his blackmail payments.....Trackdays: No problem Back country and canyon riding: No problem Get out of my own f'n driveway

The least flattering moment on my XB is when its cold, it hick-ups and stalls at an intersection.

Backing out of a parking spot, shifting in 1st, leaning quite a bit to take off with authority and power, the bike coughs and stalls during semi-clutching and a decent lean angle, leaving me with no choice but to let it fall, as slowly as I can cause the bitch is heavy at that angle. Scratched up my new RSS and was surprised that my $5.99 ebay bar end mirror survived it...

OOOHHH, I have NEVER shared this until now.
Ok, been riding my XB9S all day on a 90 degree July day carving the back roads smelling the flowers at 90+, you know, why we ride Buells. Decided to hit the local lake front docks to see the sights, bikinis that is. The road to the docks are about 1/2 mile lined with soft dead evergreen needles, very bad. I was going a whopping 5 MPH looked to my left, saw 6 really hot girls sunbathing, veered to the right into the needles and SLOWLY fell over and the girls started laughing. The worst part is that my right boot was caught under the bike and I was stuck, really stuck. Took me 12 minutes to free myself(I timed it). Finally got loose and rode away with my tail between my legs.

Moral, never let hot girls distract you while riding, if you mess up they laugh at you. LOLLOLOLOL : )

This happened yesterday. Riding through a small town, a dog runs out in front of me. I miss the dog, but he gets hit by the car in the oncoming lane next to me. I pull over to check on the dog. When I stop he runs by me and I hop off the bike to grab him. Of course my bike falls over since I did not put the kickstand down. The car that was behind me also stops and goes to get the dog owner while I try to get the dog. We get the dog who seems to be ok but does get a trip to the vet to get checked out. Then I pick up my bike and start to sort out who's who.

As traffic is passing, I guess someone sees my bike down and the car behind me and calls it in as a motorcycle crash. So now the cops come, and I have to explain to 3 different cops that I did not crash and I do not need medical assistance, I'm just an idiot who did not put his kickstand down.

Only damage is a turn signal. They should be made of rubber or something that won't break in a tip over.

And transfer more energy into the rest of the bike causing something else to break? Pass. I rather just crack the $2 lens rather than bending a $100 cheese grater.

Myrtle Beach Bike rally, Ocean BLVD, right in front of the pavillion, 1000's of people walking and sitting watching bikes. At one stop I reach over and hit a buddies kill switch and take off. At the next light he returns the favor. Only my bike won't start back up. It's dead, nothing, no lights, no fuel pump whine, nada zero zilch! Push it to the side, take the seat off and find a battery cable has shaken loose. All while the "Buell" comments are being slung around in front of ALL these people.

Downtown Lincoln Nebraska on a football night, so there are hundreds of husker fans lining the streets of downtown since thats all our downtown is, nothing but bars. Its a red light and my tummy starts growling like its pissed off and the angle on the stock seat of a XB12scg wasnt made to help hold in gas. So there I was, infront of more than a hundred drunks and hot college babes and sure enough it just rolls out, so I sit up straight real quick to try to hold the rest in which didnt work. To make it worse some Honda meet-up group likes to park their "cool" l.e.d. lit up bikes and extended swingarms in front of the bars and one was coming to a stop but the dude had some handmade exhaust or something cause he was well into the tens of thousands of RPM's and lets off the gas and BOOM!! This wasnt a pop or a little bang like my Termignoni likes to put out, but a bang like a 10 gauge using nitro express loads. I whip my head around real fast and my clutch slips out of my hand and my bike jumps into the intersection and gets ran over while it flips me off the seat and I get ran over by the drunk behind me. Not only flustering but painful.

After proceeding to tell the salesman and pretty much anyone I could find that I was going to rock a massive wheelie on my girlfriends new Blast on the way out of the parking lot to take it home: I killed it. And not even the normal motorcycle stall out where it just kinda stops running, the 80's Mustang stall out where it shudders so bad your neck hurts.

Truly, any laughs hurt a dude on a Blast, and explaining that it really was a girls bike was no help. I never lived it down (or managed to rock a wheelie on that thing) and didn't make such boasts whenever we bought newer bikes.

It was a beautiful homecoming day on campus (thousands of people out drinking at 4pm) so i decided to go for a cruise around campus. I stopped to talk to a group of people i had met earlier that week and they were asking me about the buell and commenting on my pretty polished frame...

on my way out im backing the bike up and plant my foot on a patch of sand. slip. fall. bike tips over on top of me.

all while some other drunk college kids were just passing by me who immediately started yelling "This kid is way to drunk to be on a motorcycle! What are you thinking letting him get on that thing!!!" (mind that i was completely sober)

So not only did i have to pick my bike up (and the blinker) but they would not let me get back on my bike till proved to them that I was sober! (quite noble of them actually)
