This is a lame question but recently I cracked the little plastic end cap that goes on the end of the stock bars. I bought a replacement but can't fit it into the bike.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it in there? Am I supposed to heat it up first? Tried pounding it in with a rubber mallet but it wouldn't budge. Was afraid I was going to crack the new one too.

Thanks.

My advice would be to replace the plastic caps with good bar-end weights.

I have never been able to get one of those buggers to work, ended up getting HVMP weights.

If you do not want the bar end weights go bye a Bicycle shop and see if they have any for sale without bar tape unless you might want it, put they usually have a load of spares. If too small you can add some "Electrical" tape around the inside of the bar end plug.

Try a smack with a shot-filled hammer - worked for me. Just be sure it's square and your fingers are clear.

put them in the freezer for a little bit. It might shrink them down just enough.

Have you tried KY Jelly? If that doesn't work go with barends, mine are great. Your hands will thank you on long rides.
