I recently purchased a brand new, 2008 XB9SX. Can I operate Gerbing's heated jacket liner, pant liner, and gloves at the same time (146 watts) for about two to two-and-a-half hours one-way each weekend? I ran the jacket liner and pant liner home this weekend; and the lights seemed to change brightness throughout the range of RPMs. Any suggestions? Also, the bike is still being broken in, but shouldn’t I be getting more than about 40 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg in the city? Also, when I was riding the bike back this weekend, three times it seemed to “skip a beat”. What would cause this? Sometimes, the bike seems to bog on throttle too. It almost stalled at a light a couple of days ago, while revving the bike to prepare to accelerate out of the light. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I run all that, plus dual HID headlights, dual fog lights, GPS, race computer, XM Radio, and phone charger. No issues.

Fuel economy will be low till you get it broken in. I get about 60-65mpg on my XB12.

That skip typically happens when the bike isn't fully warmed up yet and its making adjustments to the AFV.

Don't blip the throttle, just give it a little gas as you let out the clutch.

That 146 watts is only about 12 amps. The bike can handle significantly more than that. Shouldn't be a problem.

Mine does the single cough every once in awhile as well.

I've run my Gerbings gear and GPS, plus both headlights at the same time, on my '03 XB9 plenty of times with no problems.

40 to 45 MPG is about right for a 9sx ridden if you aren't riding like a whimp. The 9 has a shorter stroke, which lets it rev faster, but it doesn't get that fantastic fuel mix a long stroke motor can get.

The 12 is one of those great motors that make more power and get more fuel economy to boot.

A 1150 motor with the shorter stroke will smoke the 1200 with the longer stroke in a race application though.

I have 15 watt heated grips, gps, and HID, and a voltage monitor, and never had a problem.

+1... dont blip, roll.

If you already are over idle it will respond to a blip but if you whack it on from idle it will surely bog. If I am at a light and need to get moving quick, just before it changes Ill raise the rev's a few hundred RPM above idle so I can whack it on no worries when its time to go.}

I hope. My old s2 would do an easy 55 mpg. The XB12Ss has gotten a best of 40 being SOO babied. (500 miles on it)
