New 2009 XB12Ss. Check engine light came on at about 500 miles. Bike seemed to be running fine.

Checked error code when I got home [#21] which is the interactive exhaust control.

After some reading here, I get the impression that it is all right to wait until I take the bike in for the first service to address this.

Yes?
No?
Definitely Maybe?

Hate to take/ride it to dealer about 100 miles away twice within such a short time frame.

Thanks,

Brad

You will be fine. All it does is actuate the valve in the muffler. You may notice a loss of power depending on if its stuck open or close.

Check the exhaust actuator fuse. It is also the fuse for the brake light, and horn (go figure). If the horn and brake light don't work, bingo. It's the fuse.

My new 06 Uly did this at about 800 miles and it never happened again.

Thanks for the tip. The horn works. I know this because I seem to accidentally hit it whenever I reach to turn the key off or on.

Somewhat embarrassing.
