I remember seeing a post about a better vr than the one from buell. It was an aftermarket brand. I have done a search and couldn't find it. Could anyone out ther PLEASE help me. I just went through my third vr from buell and would like to try something else. | ||

Cure the problem, not the symptoms. The odds of having 3 VR's fail on their own is slim. Have you checked your 77 connector yet? | ||

After you find the problem, you might try a vr from cycle electric,they don't put the extra current to ground like the stockers do so they run cooler. Comes with paperwork stating 2 year warranty so long as you don't beat it with a hammer or try to open it. | ||

David - you have a PM with details on checking the '77' connector. I put this together for the Uly guys ages ago - they seem more prone to having this issue but I have seen it on other XB's as well. | ||

Changed my VR last week and found the issue to be the 77 connector as one of the blades was pretty well covered in melted plastic. I have an '07 9R. As the new VR's come with the improved connectors for both ends of the wiring (as a kit w/the VR) I am guessing just the connectors are available if the VR is still working. However, I had no idea how to check the VR to see if it was good/bad. | ||

Yes there is a kit for $20 that contains just the new connectors should that be your issue. | ||

Thanks eveyone. The 77 connector was deformed. This must have killed the vr. Everything else checked out ok. This one that was installed 6/20/08 and did not cme with a new connector. So one more time I will replace the vr with an updated buell vr with the new plug. Hopefully it will be the last. | ||

How's this for an idea? Eliminate the connector and connect the wires directly using Posi-Tites. Posi-Tites are Posi-lock connectors that are water proof. They hold tight, are damn near as good as soldering and they're reusable. They make them in a 10 ga size. Go to Home Depot and get the "Submersible Pump" wiring. It's used for...well, Submersible pumps. You'll find this not in the electric dept but in the plumbing. It consists of some wire crimps and some shrink tubes. Just by pass the •••••• 77 and direct wire it. | ||

Mine is a '06 xb12r. Same problem, They found it to be the "secondary lock" plug. It's the plug that connects to the VR. They changed it and all seemed fine. Then less then 500 mile later it happend again. This time they called HD hotline and found said plug has been a issue. So a updated plug is now on order and we will see what happens? | ||
