This is my first post. Always admired the Buell innovations, but anytime I had any additional money for a motorcycle purchase, I would add another Duc to the garage. Anyway, I met this fellow in the spring named Courtney at a BBQ for the local Porsche Cayman lug (no idea if he is the same Court on this forum) that went on and on about how great Buells were to ride. So I finally rode a friends and thoroughly enjoyed it, but simply didn't have cash for a new one and didn’t really see any used ones locally that interested me. I just bought a very expensive 1098R last year, so I was a little strapped on discretionary income for motorcycles. Anyway, I go into my local Ducati dealer last Friday (I pretty much go in there everyday) and my buddy is showing me an ad for a dealer in TX that has several 2010 XB12 Firebolts for $6000 with full warranties! I figured it was just a local ad campaign to get people in the door. I went home and did a little research online and saw that there really were huge discounts available on Buells. I went down to the nearest Harley/Buell dealer and they had an 1125CR, a yellow XB12R, a couple of Lightings, a couple of Blasts, and another Buell I wasn’t familiar with. I told him that I had heard about the discount and was looking for a black XB12R, but he said what he had on the floor was all he could get, and that if I really wanted one, I should buy it then and there, because he was sure they were all going to disappear pretty quickly. I thought this might be typical salesman “talk”, but we worked out an out-the-door price (taxes, tags, prep. Etc) of $7200 and I left a small deposit on the yellow XB12R. he told me if I didn’t let him know by noon the next day, he was going to put the bike back on the floor (and refund my deposit). The refund my deposit struck me, but again, I thought this was just pressure to move product. Anyway. This was at 9:00 PM on Friday night. Saturday morning I called around the other Buell dealers in the tri-state area to see if any one had a black one (I liked yellow, but I have several yellow Ducatis and thought I’d break it up a bit). Nobody had any Firebolts left, so I realized this was really not just a salesman trying to make a quick sale. I went back to the dealer just before 12:00 and told him that I would take the yellow Firebolt. Interestingly enough, all of the other Buells that were available at closing time the night before, had already been sold before I got there. Amazing. Bike comes home this week and hopefully I’ll get to ride it a bit before winter.

Sorry for the long post.

Frank

Congrats! And you can get all brand new black plastics if you desire, I recall its about $700 for a full set on a Firebolt. You might even be able to swap with someone on here that wants yellow. : )

It's around $900 for fiberglass from Airtech, and then you need to paint it. Just thought I would throw that out for contrast. The stock plastics seem like a bargain unless you really need to save those last few ounces for a track bike.

Thanks for the welcoming. :-) Rode the bike home from Kinnelon tonight (froze my butt off!) Can't wait for a good fall day to get to know her. She looks like a yellow-jacket. Very cool.
