The other day I had all my plastics off and I realized something that had never crossed my mind before. I was looking at the rear cylinder and it dawned on me that when I am riding there is an average of 5000 explosions per minute, less then a few inches from my package! (And I don't mean the kind UPS delivers) If that's not livin on the wild side, then I don't know what is! Thought's/Response's?

if you are averaging 5000 explosions per minute on the rear cylinder woulnd't that mean the bike is running at 20,000 r.p.m.? I will keep my package far away from a harley v-twin runnin at 20000 r.p.m.

You mean your bike doesn't run at 20,000 rpms....... you should get that looked into

I guess it would be 10,000 rpm anyway.... but it doesn't do that either

At least when a I4 explodes, you only risk losing a hand! : D

It's once for every 2 rotations of the crank so at 6k rpms it would be 3k times a minute

Yes your rite 5000 is an exageration, but even if its 2 explosions, that's a lot near the junk! Just wanted to be funny.

So what you're saying is 3 explosions per minute under your package is ok but 5000 is too much?

I can't possibly imagine that ANYTHING that could happen to your street bike could POSSIBLY lift a cylinder. Relax...it's all good.

Now if it was a Top Fuel Nitro bike...different story...MANY people have been killed or seriously injured from a lifted cylinder...

Cook Neilson had story in Cycle magazine 30? years ago about dragging a Sporty and a flange-bolted iron jug came off during the run. At least the top tube on the frame was sort of a guard.

On fuel bikes now they have restraints on the cylinders like a blower restraint on a fuel dragster. The rider also wares a flack jacket under his leathers.

I am pretty sure my firebolt lifted the rear cylinder once but my package was so ruthless it fought back and put it back into place.

One of the greatest and best Harley Fuel bike developers/riders was so injured by a cylinder explosion that he eventually died from complications...Jim McClure...it was after that one that rules were imposed for restraints and chest armor.
