I bought a 2007 XB12STT new in 2009. It was a left over. Since I took delivery till now (about 5000 miles) the bike misses or surges between 2000-3000 rpm. I recently went on a trip where I was in cooler weather (40-50's) and it was even worse. It only happens when he throttle it held steady in any gear. If the bike is under a load, accelling or going up hill the problem is not there. I've had it in for this problem a couple time but I'm being told that all Buells have this problem and there is no fix. It seems to me that the bike is running very lean in that rpm range and is very hot. The cooling fan runs constantly even while traveling at highway speed with plenty of air flow. Any body else having this kind of problem? Is there a fix. I love the bike other than that. Thanks in advance for any help. Nick |

How are the plugs? Has the bike ever had the TPS reset on it? |

My cam position sensor caused something like this. My bike would cut out sometimes at about 4500 - 5000 rpms if I recall. Drove me NUTS! It took some time and a few attempts to diagnose and fix. The shop applied heat to the sensor and it tested bad. Also the coil was replaced as were plugs, wires, O2 sensor. Good luck. |

I'm being told that all Buells have this problem. Have you heard of this? |

no change your plugs and get a tps reset buy a badwebber cause I wouldn't trust to many dealers with that plugs are the normal problem here make sure the gap is good they are easy to do |

The TPS reset. Is that something I can do at home? How is it done? |

Hello Nick, I am in Palm Harbor (just south of Tarpon Springs). I have ecmspy and cable. If you feel like taking a trip over this way, I could perform the TPS reset for you. Although, I'm sure there are folks over near Lakeland that could help too. Adrian I posted a message in the Storm Fronts Tampa Area Buell section to see if someone is closer that can help you out. Thanks Adrian I have an appointment at my dealer to let them try one more time to fix it. I'm sure I'll get the same ole story "all Buells do it and theres no fix". So I very well might be taking you up on that offer. Thanks!!!!! |

The Lakeland shop is still in the Buell network...You may want to get with Aeholton and let him do the TPS reset before you take it to the shop again. Too often the reset is done improperly...you have to back the throttle completely off before you do the reset or it will be inaccurate...I have seen several that the shops did wrong...it makes a huge difference. Word has it that Brandon has bailed on Buells...I don't know if they have a good Buell qualified tech on hand anymore. Otherwise, call Lakeland...and we have club rides the first of every month out of Lakeland...come ride...bring your friends... Two wheels in the wind....lets dance. |

+1 on the cam position sensor. My '03 9r ran like crap (wanting to stall from dead stops, hesitating, surging, sputtering on steady throttle, feeling like it was bogging down on acceleration, even throwing the engine light on while tooling around in the city) for months while we tried to diagnose the problem. It was really intermittent and sporadic at first, but then became "the way it ran". We tried putting the stock ECU back in, we tried replacing plugs, plug wires, coil, O2 sensor, checked and cleaned most engine related wiring and connectors, did multiple TPS resets.... The diagnostic software was picking up nothing in the way of error codes until finally, a "functional error(?)" was thrown. Following this code in the service manual flowchart led us to the cam position sensor. Put a new one in, and the direct connection between right wrist and back tire was totally re-established. Bike runs great now. Good luck! |
