Just curious if there is a after market exhaust that can be put on a 09 XB12ss with no further mods ? Maybe Special Ops ? Is it true that the 09 model ECM is able to learn the new exhaust ?

Thanks

Contact Randy at Hawk performance. Fantastic guy, great muffler. less than 1/2 the price of a drummer. Go here for some good info on it. I have one on my 0912Ss and love it.

The 09 will adjust for the muffler. Just ride it at 3000RPM for 15 minutes.

Anytime you change part of the intake or the exhaust system, the ECM should be readjusted. The bike will compensate to a certain extent for changes, but the bike will run better once you remap it. Running the bike at 3000rpm won't remap it.

It won't remap but it will allow the ecm to learn the changes. As far as I know the ECM on the 09 can't be remapped. I do stand to be corrected on this.

Consider yourself corrected on both points.

Allowing the ECM to learn the changes makes no sense once you start to learn how our ECMs work. Like it or not, add an exhaust without tuning the bike and you will be running lean (even leaner than stock).

09s can be remapped.

That said, many will run an exhaust and not do any tuning. to each their own, but you stand to gain little (and maybe even lose a little) power by going that route.

My main concern would be leaning out the engine and causing damage like burnt valves. The extra HP or two from a proper map is just a bonus, oh, and the bike will run much better overall too. : )
