first of all i am not a expert or nutty rider. i would say i am pretty safe but not like a sunday driver. i have a 09 xb9 city. i would like to know the easiest way to try a wheelie. like rpms and gear. do i need to pop the clutch out fast. i tried but not to hard cause i dont want to flip it. i just want the tire up a little so i can get used to it. | ||

twist the throttle. once you get used to the bike and get passed the crap-your-pants reaction to it, you will realize it has the ghusto to pull it up all on it's own. some thoughts: sit back pull up/back lightly on bars squeeze the frame with your knees keep you feet firmly planted on the pegs 1st gear, up to 5000 rpm, let off, twist er wide open, pull up, wheeeeee! | ||

On a 9, once you get the feel for it, the same process that Andy said works at around 2.5-3k rpms, and then you have that many more rpm's to ride it out! As of now, it's pretty easy to stand up and pull a wheelie at 30mph in second and ride it out to 55-60mph. The group of hooligans I ride with does it often enough where it has almost become habit LoL Be safe and have fun with it, remember, practice makes perfect!  | ||

Just remember that if you guys come to Florida......do not get caught doing a wheelie....the penalty is rather extreme. | ||

Rear brake, shmear brake, you don't need no stinkin rear brake! LoL, j/k, it would be a good thing to get in the habit of doing, I just never did  Fast - Is it really that bad down there? I thought I heard something like that a while back I just didnt think it was that much...? | ||

I have a 12... and really enjoy the first-second gear change... drop the clutch a little harder than you normally do going into 2nd and ride it till you run out of road. | ||

Here is the deal in Florida...for any of the following 3 items: A...loss of contact of tire to roadway (wheelie or jump)...B. Improper display of license plate (undertail or otherwise unreadable)....C. Speeding in excess of 50mph above posted speed limit. 1st offense: $1,000.00 fine plus court cost. 2nd offense: $2,500.00 fine plus court cost, plus mandatory license revocation for one year. 3rd offence: $5,000.00 fine, plus charge with 3rd degree felony (with it's own jail time) plus 10 year mandatory license revocation. Be very careful in florida...send scouts ahead if you want to rip...fair warning. | ||

i plan on being careful. i just wanted to see what my bike was able to do. i dont plan on stunting or doing it on public roads. i just want to no how far i can push it to learn and respect it. by the way i got the tire up about 6 inches, but havent tried again. i just dont want to drop it. it cost money to fix it | ||

Ontario has it pretty bad too. One small wheelie gets your license revoked for a week, your bike impounded for a week and a minimum of $CDN2000 fine. | ||

Demarsico, best advice I got was to learn to wheelie on a motard/pitbike. You'll learn the fundamentals, you won't kill yourself and you won't break your Buell. Wheelies on a Buell if you've never done them are risky and SCARY (done them accidently, change your pants moment!). The powerband and torque on these bikes makes it easy to 12 o clock (aka fly off the back) and thats no bueno. | ||

" I have never heard any such thing, and I speak with no authority on this...but I can not imagine that being the case. In fact, if I were a cop and you used the argument that it was an accident...I'd write you a ticket for wreckless driving for not having control of your vehicle AND a ticket for doing the wheelie!  | ||

Start on a dirt bike. You will quickly decide that a dirt bike is a better thing for this kind of sillyness (and I mean that indearingly, I have a lot of fun doing them) and you will keep from ruining a perfectly good street bike. I rarely wheelie the street bike. I rarely don't wheelie the dirt bike. I had to get a non street legal one... I knew the clock was ticking before I did something on the street with the KLR and got caught. Wreckless operation (the ticket and resulting insurance impacts) could easily cost me 10 times what the KLR did... (A KDX-200, bored to 220 with custom porting, boysen reeds, and geared down a bit is a "dial a wheelie" bike... no end of fun, and if you loop it it just costs you a $40 tail section.) | ||

Actually a YSR50 is just about perfect for this sort of thing too, but it helps to put in a YZ80 motor for the extra power. | ||

i been doing wheelie for 40 years best i have found is look at the road find small bump hit with front tires while giving gas you will just come right up very smooth and fast . | ||

Djz brought up a great idea. I love doing exactly that as some of the roads around my house have some 'rolls' in them  Holy crap. I had NO idea that the penalties in other states, expecially Florida (geez Fast that's ridicuolus!), were that bad. Up here in ND we do things a little bit simpler. I did a fairly long wheelie down the road on the outside of town and got a ticket for "Exhibition Driving". The thing is, it was only a $50 ticket and 3 points off my license (we have 12). I would hate living somewhere like you guys do, those fines are crazy! | ||

Back when I was a teenager...ok it was a long time ago ....I had a Yamaha 250 enduro....I wheelied that thing EVERYWHERE...the cop...yes cop in the one horse town where I lived would smile and wave to me as I went by...I was trying to be like Doug Domokos LOL...There were a pair of brothers that I knew back then that could wheelie their dirtbikes for MILES... It was all fun n games back then...now if the urge to do a wheelie strikes me...it is on PRIVATE property or at least where there is NO chance of getting caught...lol | ||

My 05 9s pulls the front wheel on just about every 1-2 shift. That's shifting at over 5k and shifting fast enough that the rpms barely drop. I have to make a conscious effort in town to keep it from popping up. You can easily pull the front wheel by popping the clutch in 2nd gear. pull in the clutch around 30mph and stab the throttle, let clutch fly. I've found that rpms aren't as important as throttle percentage. The closer to wide open throttle you get before letting the clutch out, the higher the front wheel goes, so be careful. | ||

I can be a chicken myself. I lean back but I tend to only do 1/2-3/4 throttle (1st gear) and let off pretty quick rather then riding it out. | ||

Those fines in Florida are steep. Don't think Texas has specific laws regarding wheelies (maybe its just wreckless driving?). Heck we don't even have the points system. | ||
