As you can see by the attached photos, I was past due for a repack. Ran the Ti RT-1 on my 2008 XB9SX for about 3200 miles. Noticed the increase in sound so I ordered the repack kit from Jardine. After taking apart the core, I noticed that it was originally wrapped with Steel Wool, but not was provided in the kit. Do you think I should get some steel wool? Only roll of steel wool that I can find locally is pretty fine grade. The steel wool that is remaining on the pipe seems t be fairly thick...

If you didn't buy the muffler new I'd say the previous owner put in the Steel Wool, which by the way is a lousy exhaust packing.

Use the fiber glass packing pictured.

Bought the pipe new, but after speaking with Jardine, realized that I have a older RT-1 that had inferior packing. Jardine stated that the new packing in the kit does not need steel wool and with last longer than the packing that had been blown out. I will post a complete set of photos illustrating the Jardine RT-1 repack process for all to marvel at.

So that's all that is in there?Maybe I'll see if I can fix the aluminum hulk that I have and actually sell it instead of give it away. Some fool took the perforated metal out and there is absolutely no packing. Might as well be a straight piece of pipe or a soup can.

Yes, and you need the packing to create back-pressure for low to mid range power. No packing means less low-to-mid range power.

Well someone that owned it before me "fixed" it, no packing and no perforated tube. Did I ever mention that there are a lot of dolts running around in this world? It was loud though, which I guess is what they wanted, probably had less top end than the normal configuration for this pipe too.
