They would probably sell if they built 'em like that to begin with.

The "problem" is that the Firebolt-styled fairing is NOT anywhere nearly as functional for either rider wind protection or for drag reduction as is the 1125R fairing.

If your main concern is how the bike LOOKS when it's parked without a rider on it, then by all means stick the old-style fairing on it.

A fairing is SUPPOSED to reduce drag and reduce the wind load on the rider and if you've ever ridden BOTH, you'd never consider putting the less-effective old style fairing on the bike.

I'm going to be putting the 1125R fairing on my old XB racer precisely BECAUSE of how it works - not how it looks sitting still.

That looks sweet! I would like an 1125r but the fairing is so ugly it just kills my desire for it.

The fairing on my XB12R works just fine, and LOOKS great.

My XB12R fairing reduces both drag and rider wind load while maintaining pleasing aesthetics.

The 1125R fairing could serve up a four course meal and do the dishes during a ride and I still would not want it on my XB12R because it LOOKS RIDICULOUS - from either on or off the bike.

For many consumers there are limits on the function over form continuum, and unfortunately the 1125R crosses the line into visual dissonance.

That looks sick! I have to say I am into the whole drag reduction and wind load, but I can't stand the look. With the bolt front fairing and full fairing; dead sexy. I want one, would buy one, and am about to seriously start thinking about parting with my '03 to make that bike.

How much is the full fairing, anyone know?

You people are nuts. The 1125R is one of the best looking bikes on the market. Only thing that comes close is the BMW 1200GS Adventure.

I love the 1125, but those over grow ears are ugly, so with that say I wouldn't think twice about buying one without the air intakes. I understand that they're very functional, just not my taste.

After riding many bikes, the 1125r fairing is hands down one of the BEST at keeping wind off the rider and still allowing you to focus on important tasks at hand, see the IC, and the road. It is very well done.

If you don't think so... go test ride a 12R and a 1125r back to back at the same speeds. Tucked the 1125r incorporates/compliments the rider to the bike. WITH a full set of leathers and SPEED hump, at speeds over 100 MPH the head shake from being blasted with wind is minimal to nothing. I had no idea how awesome that feature truly was until I took mine to the track.

If the firebolt fairing was so great... why would they have redesigned it for the XBRR and then later adapted that same design to the 1125r? Only wind tunnels and extensive testing can tell us why... I'd put money down on that very reason. Image doesn't win races. Albeit the fairing itself won't either...but it does help the rider focus on things more important than head shake and fighting fatigue.

EDIT...I realize that the looks might throw you off...and there are times that certain things draw my eyes away from what is going on. I do however appreciate Engineering and functionality. You tend to enjoy and appreciate things more when you understand the reason behind it and then experience the difference first hand.

Umm, we all understand that the 1125R fairing works great, but we aren't willing to abandon aesthetics for functionality- most consumers won't. Heck, the fairing on this bike is engineered well and has amazing functionality...

but I sure as hell would not want it on my bike.

I have ridden an 1125R, and was disappointed by how ridiculous the fairing looks from the rider's view as well as static observation. Sure, it did a good job of keeping wind off at speed- but how could a quarter acre of ugly plastic not deflect some wind.

As I stated above, I (and a large percentage of the buying public) will not abandon aesthetics to gain some functionality- we get it, and don't want it.

Many here are old enough to remember a car in the 70's that had superior aerodynamic functionality to most other cars on the road, but I sincerely hope the 1125's aren't remembered the same way in the future...

I remember after that the amc dealer sold Renault LeCar.

I like the 1125 fairing. Better looking than the 12r's. Both look better smoothed in with side panels such as the above pics or the fairing kit offered by Buell.

So. does anyone know who specifically makes that front fairing in Js_buell's post?

Still wondering if anyone has seen an 1125 without or with heavily modified scoops.

Also, Does anyone know why they changed the rearsets to mount on the case instead of the frame. I thought they looked much smoother on the XB and would think a bad hit to race style pegs could damage the case. Or is there a good reason for their new location?

Trojan sells the fairing kit shown above.

There is a scoop kit from Free spirits, but all it does is makes your bike overheat. The new version of the kit looks horrible and half assed.

I am sure there was a reason for the rear set mounting, but I couldn't tell you why.

Possibly for smoother assembly and service. They would rotate with the engine. No need to disconnect.

Wow! What a difference that bolt FE makes. From one of the ugliest to one of the best looking in one felled swoop. I think part of the problem with the original front end is it doesn't match the tail. It looks huge up front with a little tiny back end, just not proportioned right.

I just don't understand the logic that says that a rider's head, shoulders, arms and chest are better at cuting the wind than the 1125R fairing.

Looks - that is entirely a different thing... can't argue that but having ridden BOTH at Willow Springs, I have my chest HARD against the airbox cover and can FEEL the air fighting my upper body on the XB... not so on the 1125R.

Again, I can't defend the looks - if you don't like the look, that's understandable but you can't say that the exposed parts of the rider's upper body and arms can cut the air more cleanly than the fairing.

Slaughter: tell us, me, more about the 1125R to 9/12R fairing conversion idea.

Note: the pic above is not the Buell fairing kit. It doesn't come with a belly pan.

I saw Paul James (James gang racing) conversion of their XB to use the 1125 fairing. Pretty simple actually and it'll probably happen to mine during the December "off" month (the only month of no racing in the year)

I am not sure how you'd go the other way - from an 1125R to an XBR fairing, would certainly have to modify the mounts by cutting narrower. Shouldn't be too difficult.

This sounds like it would make for an excellent MythBusters episode, "Which is more aerodynamic: an 1125R with a XB12R fairing, a stock 1125R or a stock XB12R; and at what speed."

They could use the same rain-making setup they used in the "How dry can you be in a sports car with the top down in the rain and at what speed" episode.

If you can make it fit hang a XRTT fairing on it and it'll be more aerodynamic than both.......

Does anyone have a picture of the 1125 with the xb fairing but no body kit. I wonder if the body kit above is doing more for the looks for some people then the smaller fairing. Most magazine articles liken the xb fairing to an insect look? I'm not sure the insect look would go well with the pods.

Anyways, aesthetics is all opinions. I personally prefer the 25R to the CR because the fairing helps balance the pods. Others prefer the CR.
