After much research and soul searching I decided to go with Odie's Special OPS for my first mods. Exhaust, grater elim kit, and heat shields.

Let me tell you, I could NOT be happier, sound, performance, service, and bang for the buck! Odie knew my money was hard earned and worked hard himself to give me my money's worth!

I'd also like to thank American Sportsbike for the exhaust review that they put together. Badweather for this site bringing everyone together. Also Mike for coming out to meet me and lead a ride so I could hear what Odie's pipe sounded like.

I was a little worried at first as the report stated there was a "tinging" sound with the special OPS pipe. Odie helped set me up with Mike, a local guy, who had the same pipe. For the record people, there is NO "tinging" with this exhaust! It's just plain deep, you can't help but fall in love!

I heard Mike coming from several blocks away and fell in love. We chatted like some grandma's for awhile then went for a 2-3 hour ride. Every minute I followed behind Mike, the more I wanted the pipe.

Fast forward to yesterday, Odie did a special 2 day shipping to get my exhaust and cheesegrater elim kit here in time for a local event. (which is likely gonna be rained out)

I worked through the night and then finished up several hours ago. I have VERY LITTLE mechanical skills and Odie's directions were easy to follow, I had NO issues. I've been smiling ever since!

As promised when I fired up the bike, the neighbors looked out their windows, my dog started barking, and my three year old came running out with a smile on his face. I just stood there smiling!

My wife referred to it as "...much more breathy", LOL.

After a couple hours driving, I think cruising around it has a nice "burble" to it. Relaxing, sounding like a "burbling" brook of Mountin Dew or Amp energy drink. By FAR it is the nicest sounding vehicle I have. Topping my V8 Jeep and Mustang!

My low end rpm has certainly improved and rolling out of a stop I no longer need to give it 2K rpm to roll out. In addition around 2.9K rpm I always felt a surging in the bike, that is no longer there either.

I'll post some pic's when I find my dang camera, but for now I'm just enjoying my ride! Now I just gotta figure out what I need next! Save up and work on it over winter.

Thanks guys!
Cali

How do you like the tail kit?

Been thinking (dont have the funds right now) about getting one and then putting on an xblights integrated system instead of turn signals but the police in the area love to bug you about those things.

Even if I had smaller signals I hear they still like to hand out tickets, and the Buell fender is not as hidious as the pastic Japanese setups so for now, I am saving my money.

I have never had any customer of mine inform me they were ticketed for integrated signals.
Maybe it's because unlike some cheap brands out there they are actually visible ??!??

But of course to cover my arse, they are sold off road use only :-)

Odies tails look sharp!!!!

I believe most cops dont care how bright they are... although I suppose I could offer for him to check them out and see if he is willing to let me go.

Most signal tickets I've heard of were just for having them, not using them and seeing they werent bright enough.

Around here you even get a ticket for not having a reflector.

i got a spec ops pipe about 2 years ago. and i cant recommend this pipe enough, good power, good price and quality. And everyone that hears my bike complements the sound, which is "mean". The best part is that it sounds good, and not loud but just right, two years and 7000 miles and no problems at all.

Congrats Cali ... great choice. I did the same thing with my '03 XBS (same as yours?) a couple months ago. Added a new airbox, K&N, and maps - it's amazing the difference.

+1 to Odie ... great guy, great product.

- At least your dog was barking so you could find him/her ... my pets hid when they first heard the sound. Still wearing a 'permagrin' when I ride ...

I'm very interested, is there anyone in northern California with it so I can hear it?

Cali- glad you are happy! Thanks for your business.

Everyone- thanks for the good words! I am running behind due to the overtime monster awakening again at work. Trying hard to keep orders on time. Winter is coming up soon and the busy season starts for me mod-wise. If you want something done over winter plan accordingly so it can be back on and ready to ride when spring breaks.

Niceguyeddy- PM on the way.

Thanks again everyone! Ride safe.

I too run a Special O.P.S. pipe and have for a couple of years now. Best bang for the buck period! (pun intended)
Odie took the time to work with me and the pipe really woke up my Uly. I get compliments every day from other riders about the great sound.
I love a part that I can install, enjoy and never have to work on it again.
GREAT PRODUCT AND GREAT SERVICE!!

Christopher12, if you want your Buell to sound great without being too loud, order the pipe. As soon as you install it and start the bike for the first time you will get an evil grin on your face and reach for your helmet.

After you install the pipe, do you need to do a TPS reset? Is anything else needed after the install?

Thanks,
Nick

Nickh - I had a friend load a new map to the ECM (stock map can run lean) ... did a TPS reset at the same time, but it wasn't necessary (good habit though). Install is easy (my 7 year old daughter did half the work). The only other thing you need is your helmet ...

Thanks Captcaz. I'm not sure what I would do if I purchased one. I have a 2009 XB12Scg and ECM Spy doesn't work with my bike.....

If you just do the muffler the ECM on the 09 can compensate for it. Just do a TPS reset and ride the bike at 3000RPM for about 15 minutes. This will give the ECM the time to learn the new settings.

Phazernut, That's really good info on the '08-'09 bikes. I think it has been mentioned before, but most of us with the newer bikes have held off on swapping out the muffler not knowing if it was going to lean out the bikes or worse yet, void our warranty.

My HD dealer told me they would install a Jardine the day I took delivery. I told them I wanted to break in the bike first, but honestly had heard of the pain the Jardines were with failures and repacking.

All I know is I miss the sound of my 12s with Race Kit that I sold to get my XT. I wanted to Paypal Odie and ship my muffler off as well, but these issues worried me.

Odie, do you send along some tips for us ECM Spyless 08/09 guys? The TPS reset procedure is laid out in the service manual, but is Phazernut right? Is that all we need to do?

On a similar note, my Uly XT has a different outlet than the other XB's, would it be best to try and mod it to look stock? Or will it be fine with one of your traditional mods?

Thanks for the info, I may see a winter send off coming. I just can't be without my bike for a couple weeks. Ride time in MN is precious this time of year. We could have snow tomorrow!!

If I went with the Spec Ops on my '04 12R, can the stock (non-race) ECM be remapped?
