I have a XBR with a custom LED tail I made.  I have some people asking if it'll fit a XBS. Are the S,R, stock lights similar? I know the S has a remote tag light, where the R has it incorporated into the bottom of the light. This tag light in the lens actually turns into an access opening to aid in installation . That's a good thing on the R because getting the backside of the light housing is a bit of work...  My question is .... Since I imagine there is no such opening that could be used for access on the XBS It looks as if the rear section of the undertray that holds the tail light assembly can be removed for access. I've seen some pics that show 4 bolt holes under the seat (I'm assuming, and two other holes on either side. What's involved in getting access to that area on the S? | ||

The tail light assembly in an R is the same exact one used in the S. The clear piece to illuminate the plate is still there on the S but the plate being further out on the Grater requires it have it's own light. When I modify Graters for customers I make the cut, similar to the one on your R, to facilitate lighting the plate. | ||

Thanks Odie ,I just visited your awesome site and there lo and behold; a pic of an S at an angle that showed the underside of the light . I feel kind of silly now, I didn't think to look there first. Still, thanks again! | ||

It looks similar to that, I was going for a similar look, but the lenses are not from any motorcycle manufacturer, they are custom/universal style lenses which are the only thing off the shelf (besides the LEDs and some screws), used in this light,everything else is custom made. | ||

I would encourage using a real led setup as opposed to those leds that go into a bulb housing that you buy at autozone. Those don't seem to light up very well in my experience. That said... Hey Biff, Lol these are the brightest LEDs you can get, per LED they are hardwired in , no sockets involved! After looking at your vid these in real time look somewhat brighter than what you show. The company that makes these will give you 50 bucks if you can find a cluster that's brighter than these per LED count.. I have a little experience with LEDs, wonder if I can build my own cluster and send in for $50, HAHA! The tail looks pretty neat, kinda like that ermax or whatever that one is called. Good job on your build! | ||

Rah7777777 Yeah that wood be funny lol, especially since these cost 42 for the pair lol! Oh yeah I think they need to be purchased and then if you find brighter ones..........In all fairness though these are way bright the pictures don't even come close to capturing the insanity. I hope I don't get pulled over, they are listed as off road use I believe.. I didn't think I could pull off the look I wanted because of all the bulgy stuff at the back of the tray but I couldn't be happier. Ok Thanks! | ||

I understand all too well about taking pics. Ive tried everything for a $200 Wally world camera to a $1700 SLR! Just too hard to capture the true effect of bright LEDs..... Hell, I can't even get a true color from pics. Maybe a high end camcorder??? | ||

I know what you mean it's futile, I try doing comparison pics, but then I still have bleaching of the colors and light. It manages to show differences of light output though, even though everything else is hacked. I'm sure some of the blame is the fault of display medium, monitors and such, I wonder if the LED tv ( haven't seen one in action yet) is a baby step to that end. Smoking picture  in your profile, simply awesome. Awesome product as well! Your lights are an excellent and wise addition to any Buell. Robert I have a question for you.. Ummm... so, you can't capture the brightness of your lights with a camera, but somehow I can? I am not saying yours are not brighter than mine... But, um, can we say contradiction???? Silly if you ask me. Either way, I am glad you like yours. Personally, I find mine to be EXTREMELY bright, have more LED's in the cluster (which I can't help think is anything but a good thing) and imho, have a cleaner look. For reference, day time and dark environment pics... Fyi, these pics are in running mode, not brakes on (meaning about half the power is being supplied, and these are not full on pics): Outdoors  Indoors  | ||

Hey Biff, You probably missed the link that I gave you in an earlier post in this very thread which was included as a reference to your assumption. In that link you'll see many photos. If you are saying you are capturing the true brightness in your pics, I can honestly tell you that the lights I'm running are way brighter than yours , because it hurts to stare at them in person. I can stare at yours for a long time with no effect, no pain. That's funny yours has more LEDs but aren't as bright,logically you'd think they would be, maybe this is a case of less is more. Why don't you do a write up on your lights instead of trying to hijack this thread, with remarks that are way off topic. The answer to my question was already answered way before you took notice. wow... No sh!t. I can stare at the pics of your lights all day too.. BECAUSE THE CAMERA CANNOT CAPTURE AND THEN REPRODUCE BRIGHTNESS ON YOUR SCREEN... Only true way to see who has a bigger...... Umm LED setup is to put both bikes side by side. Pics just don't get the full effect. I believe it's all just in the cameras ability to capture it, nothing to do with a display. "More is better" isn't always true with LEDs, a good bit has to do with how each LED is refracted through the lens. Thanks xenon for your kind words!!! It is greatly appreciated! Thanks again Rah7777777. Biff I now see what your saying ,I took it the wrong way, I do this often (and most of the time big)so don't take it personally. I just realized what you meant about the contradiction. I can offer excuses but please accept my sincere apology instead. I need to get out more often... I do like your dually set up as well truth be told! Everybody is on the right track though, the proper LEDs are the way to go for tail lights. | ||

I have a light from Rob and it is the brightest dang thing I have ever seen on ANY bike. Very happy with it and do not worry about someone coming up on me in the dark. They will see me! | ||

BTW.... When I was choosing components for my system; overall brightness in the day time in sun wash was a huge consideration, as well as night/dark performance which just came naturally........ Needless to say I too am happy with the performance on both fronts. |
