Ok so Vassily's cool color got me curios so I went to buell Germany and they do not offer a firebolt for 2010 and they offer a xb12sx go figure I had no idea. I still got no clue on the color though but I like it

: ) I think the color you see is the simple orange under an effect of light. therefore It seems that it is uncommon for you.
If you want I can write here my VIN and by using it you can define exactly the color of my bike.

I looked around the Buell Japan site a bit as Vassily said his bike was JDM. I think I found the part numbers for his color. There were two orange kinds of colors that it could be.

Body parts- lighter color
M2224.4A8AMZ tank cover
M1662.1ANMZ front fender
M2648.1ANMZ left lower
M2647.1ANMZ right lower
M2600.1ADMZ windscreen

Body parts- darker color
M2224.4A8AMBK tank cover
M1662.02A8MBK front fender
M2648.02A8AMBK left lower
M2647.02A8AMBK right lower
M2600.1ADMBK windscreen

Not sure these will do any good outside Japan though

Brom, those colors you listed (sunset orange and racing red) are not what are on Vasiliy's bike.

It appears that he has custom paint, I have never seen his color before.

Weird, I got them from here.
http://www.buell.jp/pa/color/index.html
Check the XB12Ss

I just assumed they were different colors cause they didn't look like those colors. They definitely have more color choices over there.

Thats a wicked blue on the firebolt in the japanese site but I am flored that the Germans don't have a firebolt for 2010.

Froggy: The plastic of my bike have never been repainted before. The same color of the tank cover where the bolts have been screwed.

Its paint because they can't make a plastic look like that.

Brom, those are all the same colors that have been in America over the years, they just look funny with the online shopping tool. The translucent black looks blue.

Vasiliy, can you post more photos when you get a chance? I am really curious. It is possible it isn't paint, but a dye. I have used dye and turned white plastic fork guards from the STT into blue.

Froggy- I was thinking maybe the site was making the colors looks weird. I started searching through the part numbers on there and you are right. It's cool that they have a full selection of colors for new bikes though.

I would say it's paint I'm about 90% sure of it.If you look at like pic 26 or so in the pics he linked in the other post you will see the buell logo clearly is painted on you can tell because it has clear over it giving it a deep look.Don't get me wrong I will trade my stock color with that custom painted color any day. ; )

Here are additional pics of my bike.

I am 100% sure of that it is the stock color. Nobody has repainted it before. To reject all doubts... Does anyone know where I can define the original color by knowing vehicle identification number?

Well according to your profile it says 2004 XB9SX. Buell started making the Sx in 05. Which in case your bike would be a 05,originally Translucent Blue. Is the center of your tail piece blue in color???

The front fender is two-tone...the black is probably the factory color that went with the trans-blue.

Also the chin fairing front piece is black that matched the black front fender, so it looks like it may be a matched set.

Looks nice, but I am highly suspicious of it being a factory color.

I have not seen an exhaust tip on a Buell like this one, it looks like a Uly can with an extension.

Is that a cover on the frame or repainted?

Bads - His bike is from the JDM market so I wouldn't be so sure what year they started selling what.

If he pulls off the airbox cover and looks at the color underneath that should tell you if it is painted or not. I don't think the vin will tell you what color it is since it is so easy to change on our bikes. These could have been a factory option the year it was sold and not match the original color.

japanese model exhaust.

as for the body, im pretty damn sure thats been painted. a 2 tone factory fender? it is possiable i suppose because i dont know every market option when it comes to over seas stuff. you wont get it here though.

and are the buell logos 3d? they dont look raised up to me like they should be. looks like they are smooth with the rest as if they are decals or painted on. that could just be the pics though

Hey, guys , can you explain me the following situation?
VIN of my bike is 5MZKX12J953200063. According to the information of Owner's manual (link)
Market designation: 5=International
Manufacturer: MZ=Buell
Model: KX=Lightning SX
Engine type: 12=984cc (World)
No info about J
V.I.N. check digit: 9
Model year: 5=2005
Assembly plant: 3=East Troy, WI
Sequential number: 200063
(There is no information about stock color : ( )
And also there is a sticker on the right side of frame (near steering column) where there is the date Oct 2004. I think it is the manufacturing date.
Why is not the info about building date from VIN equated info from the sticker?

Buell started making the Sx in 05.
The info from the round cover of engine on right side tell me that it is a Lightning CityX bike (SX bike)! (As from VIN info)

Is the center of your tail piece blue in color???
Yeah... Blue color there.

Is that a cover on the frame or repainted?
Its are the fiberglass covers (the color is the same as frame color). They are on both side left and right.

If he pulls off the airbox cover and looks at the color underneath that should tell you if it is painted or not.
I have done it. The color of the other side is the same as on the top side. }

Model year is somewhat arbitrary, as the factory begins producing the upcoming year's models during the previous calendar year. This is common practice among all vehicle manufacturers I believe.

2005 model year can legally be sold (in the US) starting January 1st, 2004. There are some 2003 XB9R's floating around with early 2002 build dates.

The 2005 CityX was only available in translucent blue.

If a dealer looks at your VIN, they might see more info thats not visible in the VIN itself. I know they can check your recalls that way.

your bike is an 05 xb9sx that was originally hero blue.

bought new 12/21/2004

by SHOUJI YAMAMOTO

from KYOTO JPN 6018048

im going to bet if you take something and scrape the inside of the airbox a little bit(since you'll never see it in there) that you will peel some paint off

I told ya!!! Its a O5 city X. The strainer on the tail is why I asked the color of it. Its blue so that sent up the flag to me that it was originally a Translucent blue bike.
