Has anyone ever tried to run the stock airbox and filter, and changed the muffler (like a spec ops, with the valve in and still functioning) without a remap? Will the fuel injection handle it, or am I asking to grenade my motor?

It'll work fine.

Leave the K&N out without the remap, correct?

I ran mine with the K&N and my pipe for a year with zero issues. Then I started tinkering with TFI's and Power Commanders. I pulled the plugs constantly making sure there weren't any lean issues. No problems at all. A majority of my customers run the pipe with everything else stock. Some add the K&N later and then get around to do some map changes.

ECM adjustment is recommended, but not necessary for the basic bolt on mods.

I just want to make sure I wont destroy the motor. I have the muffler, but the dyno pulls, and mapping are going to be around $340. Just want to make sure I can run this until I get the coin together for the remap. I WILL check the plugs regularly to make sure I'm not cooking the motor. Tired of the put-puts. LOUD 'N' PROUD BABY!

Also, some time ago, I swiss cheesed the airbox. Right now I am running totally stock except for the upper cover. I know my left side scoop still rams air into the box. The snorkel through the frame IS removed. I am running a stock air filter. Should I plug the holes in the upper cover, or just stop worrying and put the thing on and see what happens? Go ahead, call me paranoid. lol. The reason I ask, is because after thinking about it, I don't think that the engine can gulp enough air through the stock filter to make the swiss cheesing very effective, because it can get plenty of air through the LSS. Right? Wrong? Should I stop being a wuss? I just love my form of mental therapy (riding) and dont want to mess the bike up.

the airbox is all about providing clean air to the engine.the (should be) limiting factor is the throttle body.
the snorkel, cover and air filter not so much. quit worrying and go ride
