The only thing I'd like to change is make some sort of quick release thumb bolts (what the heck are these things called again?: Cotter pins? |

Cotter pins? Naw, I was looking at the "Cam-Lock" "D-Ring" "1/4 Turn Quick Release" type of things. Cotter pin is an interesting idea though. I still don't think I'd trust them with the weight. Worth a thought thought, thanks! |

My only gripe with the system is how the tail light gets obstructed when the big bag is on it. All those high riding SUV's and trucks here in Dallas are too high to see it properly. I don't have that problem.
XB-Lights tail light plus turn signals that glow red when the brake is applied gets their attention. (brake light signals not installed in these pics)

Mike, I trust flickr too. I just don't trust the YOU will leave the photos up on flickr in perpetuity. If you do, then cool. I just happened to be looking through some old threads earlier today and a bunch of the hotlinked pics were caput. As far as BadWeB reliability goes, that is the first incident of data loss that we've suffered for almost ten years now and we've taken steps to prevent a similar occurence in the future. Our server is RAID configured so if one hard drive goes out, we still have all the data. |

The bigger photos are nice. We've slowly been increasing the allowable image file size. At one time the limit was 30KB. We're now up to 100KB I think. |

Just confirmed, image upload is good to go for up to 100 KB and 1024x1600 pixels. Someday we'll integrate an automated image compression and size reduction routine. |

Metalstorm, stand directly behind the Bike, say 9 feet back and imagine you are sitting at least 8 feet up. You can see the tail light glow and it increase with the brake, but you will not have a direct line of site. Many of these good old boys here in Dallas will get that close in their jacked up 4x4's, etc. I do have the XBLights tail light. I used to place the bag over the seat but the Corbin seat will not allow the rack piece to engage fully in the L shaped brackets. I need to try turning the bag and leaving the rack facing rearward. |

Marksm, I was thinking standard tall SUV. I hadn't considered lifted rigs riding on 35" or larger tires. That definitely could be a problem. Blake, thanks for the image info. I thought it was still 77kb so this is good news indeed. |

I have one for my CityX. I've used the same bags on a couple of previous bikes too. An SV1000S and GSXR600. The L-brackets for the CityX bolted on easier than any of the other bikes I used it on. I have both large and small soft bags. On big trips I use them both at the same time. For just bombing around town, I found this givi locking hardcase (with mounting plate) for about $100. I put it on my Sportrack, which I never used. I think the Ventura stuff is great. I don't think anybody else has such a wide selection of model fitment. On roadtrips, I use zipties on the soft bags. I figure it will keep them from being stolen by someone without tools (or a pocketknife.) I would stick with the stock thumbscrews and torque 'em down with the tool for the same reason. Quick disconnect could equal quick theft. Here's a bad pic of the Givi.

Oh, for locking the zippers and such, I found at Aerostich these small plastic locks. They're about the same size as luggage locks that use a small plastic key. You push key in (no turning) and the lock opens. They're super light weight and look quite secure from a distance. In reality they're no better than a zip tie (you can snip them easily) but they're reusable, have the right look (looks like normal lock) and will at least keep the honest ones out.

I use these combo locks from brookstone that are for luggage when traveling through air port security. They only cost a few bucks (less than $10 I think) and work well. What do you use to lock the bag to the rack? |

Older version than this, but the same concept. These were $9.99, can probably get them on ebay for less.

It is a good size for just light errands. Holds a fullface helmet, and anything you can fit inside it. LOL! Here's a link. Hope it works. http://www.giviusa.com/cases/Monolock-/E30-TOUR |

I just have the small locks on the straps and put a lot of faith into my fellow man. I figure it's a soft bag. Anyone who has a knife can access what's inside. One day I'll pony up for a Pacsafe bag which has slash proof steel webbing inside and a nice cable to tether it to the bike. It slips over the rack just like the Ventura packs do. |

Hotdog271, I use non-reuseable zipties on the little straps on the bags to "lock" them to the rack. I carry a small wire cutter to "unlock" the bags from the rack at my destination. Probably sounds dopey, but I live/ride in pretty low-crime areas. I am more concerned with losing the bags themselves, than my dirty underwear and socks inside them. LOL! |

Roadrash, Good idea... I agree, losing the pack would piss me off more. I have the side bags but am not too impressed with the way they fit, the capacity, and the way the scratch the shit out of the rear frame. I figured this is the way to go. Most of the time I am using it would be on a long trip. I would hate to come out of a restaurant or somewhere like that and all of my clothes and my bag are gone! That would suck. I can't imagine too many people brave enough to unzip and start looking in and riffling through my stuff. |

I need the Givi case set up for my XB12S. I could not find anything on Buell's on Givi's site. Can someone get me pointed in the right direction? |

Roadrash - Any chance you could post a pick from the rear? From the side it looks great. I'm considering picking one up with a passenger backrest. Has anyone used the Givi with the passenger backrest/ventura combo? Would it be sturdy enough? |

In two, maybe three weeks I should have the $$ for that case. Thanks again Roadrash1 for bringing that to our attention The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that it's perfect for work commute. One last question, is it rain proof? |

Here's a rear shot. I'll follow with a rear-quarter look. And an inside look with a large fullface helmet inside. And last, a look at the bottom mounting on the ventura sport-pack. I think it should be pretty rain-proof. It has a good lip around the entire edge, but no rubber seal. As for sturdy as a backrest, I don't know for sure, but it feels about as tough as anything else I've seen. -roadrash

Nice, thanks. I've got one with a backrest on order. Will post results. Here is another source to buy, they are a little cheaper than others I found. http://www.rlmotorcycles.com |

That looks good, but I would call them to make sure it includes the universal mount. I couldn't find anything that said it was included. -roadrash1 |

On that last link Roadrash1 gave, it states "includes the Monolock® universal mounting plate and hardware for mounting on most existing luggage racks." Damn nice setup for $100 (Message edited by metalstorm on August 25, 2009) |
