Champ, good question! that 196mph I posted is a speed beyond what is normally attainable on a hot rod street motorcycle. I did that about 15 yrs. ago on a '92 GSXR 1100 w/ 1340 high comp piston kit,(105 race gas), undercut tranny, air shift, msd multi spark, mikuni flat slides, Falicon crank, custom port job, with rough texture walls, nitrous( I wasn't using that), 3" over swingarm, lowered 3", dynoed at 212 hp,
on I75 in Land of Lakes Fl. bout 4 am Sunday morn, a guy had a radar gun at the rest area, and shot a bunch of bikes, as they flew by. I dont know the accuracy of the gun, but I think that bike most likely did hit that speed, he said another gsxr hit 203 that night

L8_br8ker...

To be fair though, do you honestly think the Buell outhandles a 600?

You could say its the best handling liter bike (still not sure about that...) but a 600 handles even better then a (Japanese) liter bike, and is still much faster stock then an air cooled Buell, so why compare the Buell to a Japanese liter bike and not a bike of similar power.

The 1125R should be the bike thats compared to a Japanese liter bike in terms of handling.

On the MPG issue-I get 60 when I ride the wife's 09 Blast and 50 on my 09 9SX. When we are on our own bikes and riding together she gets 75 and I get 60. Mellow saves money.

I try mellow but the bike speaks to me and whispers little nothings in my ear. Twist the throttle, you know you want to. just a little twist, I wont tell...

Jraice,

We're approaching an aspect that can only be answered by opinion, and personal preference I think, with your question, but its still a good question.

here's my thoughts:
In recent years the only 600 I rode was my friends 600rr (honda), and it was an excellent handler, and capable of much more speed than a xb1200, on the top end.
On a track it would smoke a Buell XB, on its way to 12,500 rpms.

On the street:

1) the CBR stands straight up on brakes in a turn, so I would not go in fast, and would not brake late. I often brake in turns with my XB, cause its the street, and you sometimes need to in turns you've never been through, the XB pulls up slightly, but you can stay the course with a little down pull.

2) On the street in the twisties I dont really approach top end ever, and the CBR needs a lot of downshift, (it needs to scream) to pull out hard, the XB pulls hard anytime.

3) Sitting on the Honda, (imo) you know your on a race bike, and your back, neck, and stomach want a 15 minute break, ..... often (my fault I'm old, hehe)
I can ride my XB with my clan on a 500 mile day, then i'm tired, and do it the next day too.

4) The Honda loses composure on broken roads, and needs to be tip toed thru rubble till it gets smooth again. The XB needs to slow down a bit, but doesnt seem nearly as squirley to me.

5) Conclusion the CBR600RR is an excellent motorcycle, offering a very exciting ride, and is ready to break some hearts on track day.
The Buell XB doesn't belong on the track against a RR, but, does all things better, ( a lot better) on the public roads.

*warning : The opinions expressed above are ...um... opinions

Great post L8.

I've been riding for 30 years. Yes, I am a crusty old bastard. Had a lot of bikes, including a Honda CBR 600, and Duc 998. I bought a new xb12 in 07. The Duc was amazing, but in my opinion the Buell is better handling. Best handling bike I had ever ridden.

But then I bought an Agusta F41000. You'd have to ride it to understand, but it is in a class of it's own. It corners effortlessly. It actually freaked me out at first bc I could take corners WAY faster than on any bike ive ever ridden.

The Buell is way more comfortable and a much more usable all-around road bike. But when I want to go fast I take the MV.

My heart jumps a little bit, upon seeing an Augusta F4. I never rode one, but $10k worth of suspension, and 100 yrs of race experience , at the highest level, well the ingredients are certainly there.

I agree with L8... the CBR (insert any 6 race replica here) is better handling when used to its full potential, i.e. at the track.

But on the streets, my XB is just easier and more fun to flick around in traffic or down a canyon road at 40-60mph than any of these race rep...

FWIW I own a Gixxer 6 trackbike and an XB12Scg : )
In my opinion, the v-twin torque + awesome handling of the XB for the streets and the I4 screamer for the track is the best combo ever! Wouldn't trade it for anything right now.
