I know this should probably go in the knowledge vault but this forum seems to get more attention.

I just got my xb12r a couple months ago and once riding season is over here, I am going to be doing a few mods. I will be putting on a D&D, K&N air filter, and an open air box conversion from American Sport Bike. My question is I have read a lot about using race ecm's or remapping the ecm and I am just plain confused. What do I need to do? What would be the best plan of action as far as my ecm? If I even need to do anything. I want to get the most out of it. Thanks for the help.

Just getting the Race ECM is the easiest. There is software (ECMspy) to change the maps, but it is no longer available. Also, it can get pretty complex. Every now and then you can find a used race ECM for sale. I'd post in the "Parts Wanted section"

Depends on model year...... '07 and older... race ecm should take care of you just fine.

The D&D is not a great match for the Buell Race ECM, whose mapping is formulated specifically for the Buell Race Muffler, a muffler that is biased towards optimum top end versus the D&D which is biased for big fat optimum mid-range performance.

Good News Mizzou! I am thinking that the folks at American Sport Bike offer prepared mapping just for your exact configuration.

Your other alternative is to find someone who can tune/remap your Firebolt via dyno.

FYI, I would have answered this in the KV even sooner. ; )
