I just got rear ended at low speed waiting at a red light. I didn't think there was any damage, but I was less than 2 miles from the Buell dealer. Went there, tech did a quick inspection, nothing wrong. 9 miles of city driving later (on my way home) the bike all-of-a-sudden loses power (LOTS). I "chugged" along for the last 1/2 mile to my driveway. The bike now is idling at 800 rpm. Could this be something with the rain? I haven't ridden in much steady rain. Open airbox, K&N filter, moisture issues? | ||

I just remembered the bike was in 1st gear when I got hit. Hands were on clutch & brake. Not sure, but my clutch hand could have let go for a second right after. | ||

Check your headers, if one is cold (probably the front), it isn't firing. 99% of the time this is from spark plug wires rubbing through and need replacement. The wires will ground out when wet and the spark plug won't get any power. | ||

I had the same problem in the rain. I replaced the wires with new magnecor. I found that the plug boot hole was distorted and did not seal the plug. Let the bike dry out and try to restart. If it runs well when dry, take your garden hose and spray water into the left air scoop. If is starts acting up again, you just found your problem. | ||

DO NOT spray water into your air scoop. it should not run good if you do that. a hose is going to put ALOT more water into your intake them rain ever will especially depending on the angle of the water stream. and you will just be filling up your airbox and filter with water for no reason. start with checking the headers to see if both are of equal warmth. if one is pretty cold start checking there. if not then you will need to look else where. | ||

lol, yeah I would have to advise against the spraying of water from a garden hose into the intake scoop as well. | ||

Bike started easy and ran fine this morning. I'll check the wires today or tomorrow. No rain in the 5-day forecast. I took my airbox apart last night and didn't find anything wet inside. So, I'm assuming it was a plug wire. Factory plug wires OK? Or should I get some aftermarket ones? Opinions? | ||

Luckily, I had my hand on the brake. If not, things would have been A LOT worse by me hitting the car in front of me. He was pretty lame. Didn't even offer me anything for the inconvenience. | ||

The OEM wires are fine but if you want to go after-market that that is fine too. | ||

 mine did the same thing. this is what was wrong with mine. Got parts from american sport bike dont know if it was oem or not but works fine now. also did plugs wile i was in there. good luck |
