I had a 97 S1. One of the most beautiful Buells ever made IMO. Ran great and handled decent. My only beef with it was the narrow seat. I couldnt do more than 30 minutes on it without wanting to take a break.

Maybe Im just getting too old and fat though.

to me the early tubers handle well up to about 85% and then start getting iffy when leaned over hard at the track. the xb's and the 1125's are on rails in comparison. 7 tubers and 2 1125's in the garage. i'd have an xb by now if i hadn't gone racing this year. there is a 9 in my future for sure. also to me there isn't a better looking bike than the S1!! i have done 600 mile days on mine but i heard that i'm a masochist: )

'99 X1, 101 HP, 440 dry. I run it hard every day and LOVE it. I have an XB9S in my garage that I walk right past every morning as I get on my X1 : )

Badass looks, beastly amounts of torque, and they only made them with the equivalent of the XB9 primary gearing. Wheelie machine!

Final drive ratio is what matters. I believe that all the domestic Tubers are about the same as the current XB12's.

What does an XB12 have to do with tubers?

My 98 S1W will hold it's own to my 08 XB12R in a straight line. Haven't had the 98 on the track, but Smoke is probably about dead on.

I have a 2002 X-1 White Lightning. Her name is Beulah. 103 foot pounds of torque. She corners very well. I really like the tube frame, which is why I have kept her. Plus, she looks and sounds great. The only problem I have is that people stop me in traffic and ask if it is a Ducati. It is a real head turner.
