I'll take detailed shots of where it all mounts tomorrow evening if that'll help. Your profile says you have a Slong where mine is a standard S so there are differences between the two. |

I just googled the Ventura system. It looks pretty well thought out. It might be handy for traveling with my wife. How is it in the rain? Is it at all waterproof? It doesnt appear to be. |

They might be light rain resistant for a short time but definitely not rain proof. Rain covers are available for different pack sizes and pack combos. |

Not rain proof. Need to dry-bag your stuff. Awesome system though. I modified one from an older jap bike (fz6 maybe, don't remember). Brand new of ebay $100. Then beat the crap out of it with a BFH for several hours to make it fit. Sold the bike so I don't have detailed pics. Sorry. |

Thanks Metalstorm, So If I see this right, it only mounts to two positions... the rear of the foot peg, and then the bolts under the tail? Thanks, I'd hate to spend the $135.00 if I can make a set myself. Hopefully some pipe, a welder, these pictures, and many beers and I'll be set. |

Looking at their pictures... there is a considerable difference. The difference in the bike isn't that much... Check out the bend of the L-brackets.

This may require a lot of beer,,,, of I should get off my wallet and spend the money to save frustration and defeat! |

Marksm, Is that Eye at the lower mount by the passenger peg part of the mounting system, or something you added? |

Something he added. The Venture kit comes with two longer than stock bolts that replace the rear passenger peg bracket bolts. Two small bolts holding it up to the tail were also supplied by Ventura if my memory isn't too fractured. |

Thanks Metalstorm. I was just in the garage looking at it, I think I can make it happen pretty easy. I need some metal stock and some bolts. May not even have to weld anything. Looking at the pictures I posted earlier. The SS mount looks like it puts the rack further back on the bike. Do you ride with the pack facing forward? If so do you get crammed against the air box cover? The regular mount with the pack forward looks like it rides half on the riders section of the seat. |

I can't believe they use the two bolts under the tail for mounting. I wouldn't have thought that to be a strong point being such a small bolt, and that is where the majority of the weight is supported. |

I normally ride with the 35 liter bag in the back position. (second pic up top) It isn't too bad with the 35 liter bag in the forward position but the 45 liter is too cramped for me in the forward position on the little S. It might not be so bad on the longer Ss. For long trips, depending on my needs I'll either have a 35 liter up front zipped to a 45 liter on the rear or the 45 liter bag on the rear and all my camping stuff bungied on the seat like is shown in the first pic up top. Currently my riding is limited to work commute so I'm running the sport rack attachment and the 10 liter sport pack. |

I think most of the weight is levered to the peg bracket mount. |

Nice thing about the big Uly is that you can slip the Ventura pack right over the triple tail and cinch it down right as rain. Al Lighton dissuaded me from ordering the bracketry and advised me of that. Al ain't greedy. Thanks Al. |

I have a ventura rack, but I put a hard topcase on it. Works pretty well, the case comes off in seconds and the whole rack comes off in just a few minutes. |

My ventura rack setup on my Scg: I normally leave the grab handle on there. It's small and less noticeable, but it makes riding two up significantly more comfortable for the both of us: Then the touring setup: Revpack Tourpack on the back seat with clothes, tools, tent, and sleeping bag inside with room to spare. Wolfman Explorer tank bag with electronics and rain gear. And a small cooler on the back of the rack. It's solid as a rock! I love it! The only thing I'd like to change is make some sort of quick release thumb bolts (what the heck are these things called again?: And fasten the whole rear pegs/luggage rack assy. with them. So it's a matter of 1 minute job to install the pegs/rack, or remove it all. I think the bike looks 100 times better without the pegs/rack. And I only use them 1/4 of the times I ride the bike. I just don't know if the fasteners would be strong enough for for everything. |

I added those rubber coated eye bolts to use with bungee cords. My only gripe with the system is how the tail light gets obstructed when the big bag is on it. All those high riding SUV's and trucks here in Dallas are too high to see it properly. |

I wish y'all would upload instead of hotlink the photos. You know those photos will disappear someday. It'd be cool to have them here for posterity. On account of they are interesting and such pretty pictures. (Message edited by blake on August 20, 2009) |

I try to upload when I can. The 'how it fastens' pics are uploaded because they were taken in VGA mode meaning the files were small and even after being resized to fit here, remained very close to original dimensions. The problem with my first two up top is that they were taken with the camera set on BIG FILE (8mp)mode and when I resize them & compress them enough to fit here they are the size of postage stamps. (slight exaggeration but not too far off the mark). |
