Love my XB9S but the horn is a joke and dangerous too! Anyone fit a louder horn and have suggestions?

Thanks

Ditto...

I started riding about 1970... the horns were pathetic then. The entire motorcycle power train and electronics have progressed from mild to space age in that time... I am betting the horns have not changed one bit in tone or loudness! I have laid on the horn next to vehicles which were crowding into my lane and they did not hear me.

If there is a horn out there that is loud and will fit on my bikes.. I WANT ONE!!!

I have seen big airhorn type truck horns put on Goldwings... not practical... but effective.

I second the motion!!! I WANT ONE TOO!!!!!

go down to the local auto parts store. they will have several 12 volt electric horns about the size of your stock buell horn, with various tones and decibel ratings. when changing the horn, take a close look at the horn wire, which may have some rubbing/abrasion from the horn mounting screw. tape up wire, and reroute as required. good luck.

If you do that, trace the power feed for the horn and make sure the fuse can handle the load of the new one.

I had an old bike 1979 XS-1100 that had a car horn that fit in and was a little larger than the the stock horn. I was from an american car, so it sounded like a car. Got cage's attention.

How about one of the Fiamm horns off of the X1s?

the horn circuit is shared with the interactive muffler actuator, and is protected by a 15 amp fuse. plenty for an electric horn or two.

Hootowl,

I think they are the same. If not they sure sound the same on my XB and my wife's blast.

the stock horn on wifes 883 (2000 model) is pretty damn loud, real close in size to the buell horn.

Believe it or not, I just replaced the horn on my 83 Honda with an XB horn because it's WAY louder than the stocker, was a bolt-on replacement, and only cost $7.50.

If you want a REALLY loud horn setup, someone posted this link on another motorcycle board I frequent:

http://www.fjrtech.com/getdbitem.cfm?item=24

I understand these horns are available at Harbor Freight really cheap if you have one nearby.

I replaced my X1 horn with a Blast horn. Seems to be much louder, and it fits under the seat.

Horns are serious business. Just like helmets. THEY CAN save your life. Never forget that. Loud exhaust? I have 2 bikes both with V.& H. headers. Do you think morons won't pull out in front of me? Ever stop and think almost every car out there is cramming some kind of big sound radio in it? They say they can't or didn't see us. When you sue them they say they only pulled out a little, maybe just a foot. Don't become part of the statistics. I had a safe 30 years riding H2, Z1R-TC, Cafe Racer Sportster, Hurricane, ZX-11 until a careless driver t-boned me 50 feet into the air. My full face helmet came down first with me in it and instantly I joined the 'broken bone' club 6 times over. I had a horn, a red jacket on, hi-output headlamp and it was a sunny noon day in the countryside. I didn't have TIME to hit the brakes. It wasn't my fault. My body, my job, my bike wrecked. ........don't gamble with YOUR horn, ever.
