Anyone know of a good set of flushmount turn signals for the XB9R's that are better/brighter than stock? What brand(s) and model#('s)? Anyone using the Airtech LED signals (see link below)? What do you think of them? Any advice on where and how to mount these things on the XB9R tail? Any pics? I am looking at getting a set of these: http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/miscpages/turnsignals.html I've looked at the Lockhart Phillips type at a local store (Iron Pony) but they are cheap looking (in my opinion). I've also looked at tons of them on the web but I don't want to order them if they aren't any brighter than stock. And, I have looked at undertray kits and license plate relocators but the prices are too steep for me. Thanks for any input. Mike. | ||

I really have a problem with vendors that make BS statements like this: -------------------------------------------------- HLR1 Compact 12 LED Wing Design Long lasting LED's burn brighter than conventional light. Sleek profile light mounts easily anywhere with a peel and stick tape approxiametley 4 1/2" wide by 1 1/2 " high. Use with light converter for running/brake light applications. HLR2 Mini LED Brake Light The 12 LED's are brighter and easier to see than conventional bulbs. Weather resistant black plastic housing is only 4 3/4 wide by 3/4 high by 3/4 deep. Mounts with peel and stick tape. Use with light ocnverter for running/brake light applications. -------------------------------------------------- (there's also typos all over that web site  ) LEDs are not really brighter than conventional bulbs... perhaps if you are comparing a grain-o-wheat incandescent bulb to a SuperFlux LED... in that case the LED should be brighter. 12 LEDs, unless thay are 1 watt Luxeons, are not going to be bright enough for a decent taillight. For LEDs to be brighter than bulbs, besides considering specifying the bulb you plan on replacing, you need to have a suitable array of LEDs in a respectable brightness and viewing angle that will produce the light output. An array of LEDs can be brighter, but the statement "LEDs are brighter than bulbs" is a total crock of poop. Be careful out there people... do some research on LEDs before you spend your money on them... and remember, you get what you pay for. just my $.02 | ||

Definitely good advice about doing research on LEDs. I bought one of those 1157 base LED brake light bulbs that claimed to be brighter. After testing it in my XB I just stuck with the standard bulb because it was noticeably brighter. So I won't be using an LED brakelight anytime soon, but I do want LED turn signals. I didn't mention above that I am also exploring the idea of fabricating a custom undertail with integrated LED turn signal lights. Talk about BS claims, I was quite offended when I came across this page on the airtech site: http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/miscpages/foam.html wherein they make this statement about what looks to be just plain weather stripping material: Still researching LEDs. wow, that's a really crappy statement to make. I tell everyone who is considering those 1157 "pop-in" bulbs to either spend the money and do it right or stick with your bulbs... unless you have no regard for being seen. I like emailing this picture to the guys on ebay that sell those bulbs and make all kinds of ridiculous claims of being brighter and safer: http://www.heavycycles.com/images/Img_2140.jpg let me know if you need any help with the LEDs... that's what I do. -Joe | ||

I have the same experience with the LED 1157 Bulbs. Do not appear brighter, actually I thought they were dimmer unless one was exactly the right height in elevation to the lens. | ||

Do you guys know where i could get smaller efficient rear blinkers? Cause i'm chopping up my license plate holder to get a cleaner undertail look but those blinkers are not the style i'm wanting. I don't care if they are LED or not I just want smaller rear blinkers? Thanks for your help. | ||

Joe, are you a BadWeb sponsor or planning on being a sponsor? I like the look of your V-Rod LED turn signals. They might look nice on the XB9R tail, but the price is a little steep for me. rear signals on an XB are single filament, but with LEDs, they can be single or dual filament, all red, all amber, or a combination of both for a run/brake/turn light. Xb9er, I may very well become a BadWeb sponsor... I contacted Blake about it and he gave me the info. I probably will do it after finishing a few more Buell lights. Right now I only have them for the XB series. For now, I like to try to help out with electrical and lighting advice as much as possible. I like to see people find what they are looking for, not what someone is trying to sell them. -Joe |
