So, I have a set of Kick Ash plastics. I was thinking about pinstriping and painting the inside of them. The effect I am looking for is kind of a candy effect. Black and white striping and silver metallic paint. My question is would the prep be the same as painting the outside? I want to do the custom work on the inside to prevent road damage. Has anybody done this?

I have not done this, but I think it would look sweet! A nice glossy finish on your graphics!

Prep would be the same. Sand and prime the area's to paint and mask the area's you want left alone.

I was thinking about doing something like what's on the Crossbones. The old style pinstriping. I figured silver would be a neutral color that would allow the Ash to really stand out. The ash color would limit my pinstripe color. That's why I want the black and white. Now if I could just get out of this desert and go for a ride.

If you prime it wouldn't that be what you see rather than the paint if it's on the inside?

It might be a dumb question. I don't know anything about painting and I'm curious.

To pinstripe it i'd just leave it as is and stripe away.
I'm a pinstriper and thats how I do everything I stripe on and haven't had any troubles.
You'll want to have it clear of any grease or oil residue. I use mineral spirits or windex when striping. might want to test to make sure they dont make your translicids look funky first.

If you need a striper, PM me and I can get it done for you.

Yes.

Use an adhesion promoter and go straight to a urethane single stage or the pin striping paint.

I've thought about that. The layers would be, from outside in, Plastic, bonding agent (if it were clear), stripes, solid paint color.

yes if you prime it all you will see is the primer since you are painting the inside to be seen on the out side.

Offfff Funny as hell my goof. Yeah your right. Been up since 4am and I'm flying on alot of coffee. Nik is correct. Get yourself a tac cloth as well. It will get rid of any dust lint any airbourne stuff just before you lay and paint or clear.

I recently painted the inside of a Zero Gravity extended XBS windscreen. I used Krylon Fusion and followed the recommended prep -- wipe down with mineral spirits. It came out awesome.

It would be like painting a clear RC car body. Here is some good info. http://www.rctech.net/articles/painting_hauntedmys t.shtml

Bikertrash, it's funny that you mention RC cars. That's actually where I got the idea of painting the inside. Thanks for the tips. As usual, the Badweb comes through.

The only thing that worries me is that r/c bodies are clear and the kick ash might be too dark to see any colors underneath?

I had always thought that black metallic might look cool under red or blue plastics.

Better not sand at all. I painted the outside of my plastics a couple months ago and sanding made them opaque in about 3 seconds.
