So As of about 5:00 today, I am now the owner of an '05 CityX with a mere 3300 miles on it. As I was loading it in the bed of my truck, I noticed something; the front brake wasn't activating the brake light. Signals and rear brake all flashed the lights, and the front brake grabs the rotor just fine, it just doesn't flash the light. The guy I bought it from says he never noticed it, but we spent about 2 hours going through the wiring looking for the problem. Cleaned the connection @ the lever, couldn't find any obvious problems between there and the fuse box/taillight. Anybody know where would be a good place to look for the bad connection? It seems like it would be a fairly simple solution, but it kept me from riding today, and I'd like to get it resolved ASAP. Thanks for any/all help.

Could be the switch is shot. I would replace it, its only a few dollars.

Yes it most likely is the switch. They are like 5 buck or something. I had BOTH of mine go at the same time.

It's easy enough to jump the two wires together with a paper clip or similar and verify that the switch is in fact the problem before you buy a new one.

I got a new switch, cleaned the old one, and got it to work. Now I have a spare!

Yanked the switch today and jumpered it with a spare wire; circuit is good, the switch is bad, cleaned it, still didn't work, pulled it apart and the contact on the switch had broke off. Got a new one on order, should be here next week. Thanks for the tips!

On the upside of things, while you're waiting for the new switch you have the luxury of being able to hit the brake hard to scrub speed when you see a cop without the brake light giving you away : )

For some reason those switches are CRAP!!! Buddy had a BRAND New XB12 and the switch was toast... Oh well at least it's easy to remedy.
Another$.02. Glad you got it sorted out.

Which is funny, because have owned 4 Buells and a few Jap bikes in the past, and none of them ever had a brake switch fail.

Mine had a broken front brake light switch also when I first got it. And I too noticed it after unloading it from the truck... funny
