i may have been looking on the wrong section so apologies if this has been covered!

does anyone have a link to a picture guide of how to do a breather mod for rerouting of blow-by to atmosphere / catch can?

i fancy having a go at this myself over the weekend : )

thanks in advance.

What is this going to give you?
More power, better mileage, better handling...or...
Money fer nuthin.

Save your money and do a track day or a rider course somewhere.

I concur its the 'more power & better mileage' options.. instead of spitting the gunk on the airfilter which can rob the air flow to the engine, the breather retoute will put that gunk somewhere else like a catch can or wherever away from the airbox..

a badwebber made one that spit the gunk into the exhaust, smart idea ; )

Right, because a mod that can be done for a couple bucks worth of hose and a filter, and makes the bike run better isn't worth it.

Anyway I got the kit from American Sport Bike, comes with all the right length hoses and fittings. Once you know what you are doing, its easy to install.

I don't have pictures to show, but simply get some rubber hose, route both breathers into a T fitting, and then down between the engine and the frame to a home made catch can/filter. Do not vent to atmosphere. : )

This link will give you a good idea as to what is involved. Cost is low and I found my off idle acceleration to be better. Engine idle was less lumpy and the "eagerness" of the engine on my XB9R to spool up seemed to improve. I did not use a catch can and vent to atmosphere by running the hose to the hole in front of my chin spoiler and onto the muffler. At least that part won't rust...does create a bit of a mess after a long ride.

I used a K&N filter instead of the cheap ones as it looks much more factory. I also used quality black zip ties instead of worm worm clamps as I think it looks better.

Hope this helps, not my original post by the way.

hey hey : )

thats an excellent write up and some very useful pics - many thanks for all the info guys - will give this a try at the weekend: )

AKS

EDIT - regards the filter - is it actually necessary - am worried about eventual clogging and i prefer to live by the KISS rule wherever possible...
