As many of you know, I recently was in a wreck. Long story short, my forks are shot and will need replacement. I will replace the whole thing, rather than take it apart, think something is straight, and then reuse it just to find out it’s a degree off and pulls.

My bike is (was) a 2006 XB12SS, with the frame, swing arm, suspension and motor being the only stock bits on the bike. I have been overall happy with the SS suspension, but I miss the nice cushy ride of my old Uly. I was thinking of swapping in the STT suspension (09 SS to be specific, it’s got black forks). I would then also get the XB12XT rear shock, that way I can finally use the remote reload adjustment, plus I got the Uly tail on my bike and it will be loaded down from time to time.

Another route I was thinking about was going with the Firebolt front forks. I have heard before this can help improve handling as that along with swapping trees and such (probably going to do regardless just in case). From my understanding my bike has a slightly longer trail, and that this setup will reduce it and improve handling.

My last option, where I totally don’t know where to begin with, would be to get a custom race suspension.

Your thoughts?

Can't go wrong with custom suspension.
Period.

If it were me though, I'd go with the XBR suspension, it works great for me.
Anything more would just be more expense.
I can't out ride my suspension.
I've tried...but that's another topic ; )

I don't know Froggy, you seemed to be pushing it pretty good up on the Cherry Cola last year...whatever the case, I look forward to riding with you again, I love watching that Micron spitting flames.....

The 05-08 Firebolt front forks are the same part number as the pre-09 Ss. Both are J0121.3A8 and J0122.3A8. You could use the '09 Firebolt forks to get black, but apart from the preload adjustment that would be the same as the forks you had before.

I'd get advice before I mixed and matched the rear shocks. You could run pre-09 Ss with the Firebolt or pre-09 Ss forks, or everything STT ('09 Ss). I would think it wrong to put an XT shock with STT forks.
