Well, I ran it dry yesterday and thought I'd share. My fuel trip meter read 37.1 miles.

Dang! I don't think I've put more than 15 miles on the fuel trip meter.

Good to know!

I have my fuel trip in the mid-high 20's most of the time.

I wish there was a critical low fuel light, or have the fuel light flash when I get to 0.1 gallons. I find it annoying that when that light comes on I can actually go another 30-40 miles.

Pushing is more annoying.

And I still had enough gas to cause the light to flicker on and off when I stopped : )

I usually wait until in 20's to gas up. As long as I know there is a gas station near.

I ran mine out of gas a couple summers ago. I only made it a little past 34 miles before it cut out on me. Pushing it down the side of I-95 wasn't a whole lot of fun and it's not something I'll let happen again.

how many miles are you guys (and girls) getting out of a full tank, mainly directed to the XB12S owners, I just bought mine and want to make sure I plan my trip accordingly, there are stretches here with 30-50 miles before gas or exits, don't want to be stuck on the spillway.

Range per tank will vary, as I typically get 240 miles before gassing up. Your 04 has a smaller tank than my 06 SS. You should be good for 150 miles before thinking of stopping.

60MPG x 3 gallons = 180 miles, so your gas light should be on about 150.

My fuel light comes on around 120 miles or so. There's consistently 1 gallon left when it comes on. I've run it into the high 20's before refueling.

I put 147 miles on my R a couple weeks back, the fuel light never came on and the low fuel trip meter never started. I got nervous and went ahead and filled up...2.7 gallons...so when is the low fuel trip meter supposed to come on? It usually comes on in the 130 range, but I did a parade run for the July 4th weekend so I was gentle on the throttle the entire time out, shouldn't have made a difference, maybe my sensor is going bad?

If taking a long trip with no gas stations I'd fill a liter bottle with gas and carry with me. People will look at you funny when you're dumping "Aquafina" into your gas tank but it may keep you from pushing.

You should use a NOS bottle. Won't the gas eat up a water bottle?

I have gotten very close to 30 miles with the dummy light on... that was close enough for me.

I kept saying, "C'mon... don't crap out on me... I can SEE the gas station... just a bit more... just a bit more!"

I felt one stutter as I slowed to make the turn into the station.

Nah I have had gas in a plastic bottle before but it will melt styrofoam in seconds.

I fill up and carry a fuel bottle (for camp stoves) when I go on longer trips. Fortunately I've never had to use it. I'm guessing it's good for only 10 miles. Gotta be safer than carrying a water bottle though.

Depends on the ride.... while commuting, my light comes on around 115, lots of stops and spirited starts. But when were out on an actual run, spirited or not, I'm getting 130 before the light comes on. Either way I get into the high 20's with the light on. The highest millage I've seen between fill-ups was 185. I'm too chicken to push my luck any further then that.

Havent run the buell out of fuel yet, thank god. But have been there wishing it happened on a hill with a gas station at the bottom. I guess you could say it feels like its all up hill when it happens. I was just wondering about restarts are they difficult. crank crank and crank some more.
