Hey Folks,

I'm trying to get my wife on board with an XT, but when she sat on the back, there literally wasn't enough heel room to put her feet on the rear pegs. The saddle bags where so far forward her feet wouldn't fit. So, I hopped on the back myself and sure enough, I couldn't get my feet on the pegs either!

Were the bags mounted wrong?
Can they be moved back?
Are their other Givi or aluminum bags that allow more foot room?

This sounds silly, but believe me, if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy, and if she won't ride on the back, I'll either need to buy the XB12X and add a freakin' trailer, or just buy the Goldwing because that's what she want's anyway. We can't afford a Wing and an X bike. Can you help me?

Live well, love much, laugh often,

The only way to move the bags is to get different racks like those from the police bike.

Your next best option is to relocate the footpegs, there was a guy in the Big Bad and Dirty section that machined some brackets to move them a few inches.

I'm new here; just got the XT last Friday. But my wife rode yesterday and didn't complain. (At least about the foot pegs.) The Buell is an '08 and the wife is 5' 1".

peg relocation brackets work wonderfully.

here is a pic of them installed, more room and allows her to keep her knees at a better angle. clears the bags perfectly.

Back in the dear old days, when motorcycles were primarily an economical form of transportation, accommodations for the pillion passenger, as they were called then, were a lot more reasonable than they are today.

Both rider and passenger sat at the same level, and their foot pegs were also at the same level.

That way both were comfortable, and the passenger's weight was much lower.

Here is a photo of my old R69S which shows the arrangement. This was my only form of transportation in the early seventies, and I often took long trips two up.

The matter of comfort for the pillion was simply a non issue.

I do not understand the current style of placing the passenger way up in the air with her legs tucked up under her like a squatting dog, do you?

This is all the more true for the Buells, which do not have the typical high mounted exhaust pipes which make a low foot peg location difficult, if not impossible

Get your wife her own xb... I'm sure that'll make her happy.

Simple answer- form over function. The "race" look has been adopted for the back end of sport-styled bikes, and this takes precedence over passenger comfort.

Great photos, but where do I BUY those peg lowering brackets? I haven't been able to find them on-line. Does anyone have the website address or company name? Thanks.
