I finally finished up the install on my 03 lightning. Works mint thanks to some huge help from Darthane. As of right now operation stands as such: Still 1 on in low beam mode. But, 2 on in high beam mode. Ran separate fuse and rely dedicated to high beam strategy. High beam indicator still works and on low beam mode flash to pass still works. Depending on how clean you want the install is up to you. I got rather in depth with mine. Wanted it to look factory and stealth. Used high temp wire loom to match factory. Ran the wires right next to factory loom under air box to the rear section. If anyone else wants help with this mod. I'm willing the pass on the info. Just as others have helped me on this site. ill bite for any info that you could relay to me. I wouldnt mind having both lights on all of the time and still being able to use the flasher. but id like to see what is entailed in doing this |

I want to do the same mod to my XB12R. Sounds pretty involved though. I`d appreciate any info you could share with me. |

Yeah, I brought this up last year. I ended just rewiring it to where the low beam would stay on all of the time and only the high beam light would go on & off with the switch. Go to the web site below and read all about it. It's VERY easy to do....15 minute job. http://www.badassbuell.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=91 |

Mookie, you and I can go over the necessary changes when I'm home in April. I can ever do them for you, with proper enticement (read: 12 pack). See below, though. NOTE: What Frank did was to a XB9*S*. The headlight systems are completely different - what he did will NOT work for an XB9*R*. XB9Rs already have both headlights on when your brights are on, XB9Ss alternate lights. What you want for an XB9R is actually a cut-out circuit to allow you to flash off the high beam while both are on. When I get home I'll gladly go through my manual and detail exactly how to do it for anyone interested. Bryan |

Ha! Bring your own beer, buddy boy. I'm coming home March 27th, but I'm going on vacation from the 1st through the 7th, so it'll have to be after that. The truck will be out of the garage, so I'll have workspace and I need to get the tools out anyways as I'll be adding a new exhaust and (possibly) intake to the Blast and doing work on the Firebolt as well. Hopefully the weather will be nice one weekend and I just make a wrenching holiday out of it. Bryan |

As always Bryan saves the day. I know you made things clearer for me thanks again. That's why when I did the 2 on in high beam mode. I was a bit paranoid with the heat issue and just jumping the headlight switch. |

...me too! While you're doing this whole "thinkin' and figuring out stuff" Darth, is there a simple solution to adding a hazard light function to the existing XB9R? P.S. Did ya'll know, when the low beam burns out on the XB9R, the high beam will come on, and you wont be able to switch it off? Found this out last week. Kinda cool. |

I'll be home in about 3 weeks, so I'll get a look at my manual then and post the necessary changes. They'll end up in the Knowledge vault per Blake's little rant. i should put the instructions I sent to Frank in there, too. I'll get around to that later today, maybe. Pretty spiffy about the lights...now I'm interested in how they worked that into the system. Oh, and I'll check on the hazard thing, too. That would most likely require a new flasher unit or two added somewhere in the bike. edited by darthane on March 07, 2004 |

Im interested in this also. I converted my 9S to a 9R and I still have the lighting (minus the bulbs) of a 9S. 1 light at a time. |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=240272#POST 240272 There's the post in the KV of the information I gave Frank. Austin, this would work for your bike, since you still have the electrical setup of a 9S. Bryan |
