Please, if your new topic is not directly related to an XB model motorcycle, PLEASE post it to the Quick Board.

Thanks!

And... If your new topic is a technical one, PLEASE post it in the appropriate topic in the Knowledge Vault. You know like tires, brakes, and stuff like that. Or mufflers and intake or stuff like that. Or... ; )

Thanks for your help in keeping our little corner of the web semi organized.

Cheers,

Blake

So, what if I need to know what intake works best with which tire?

I'm coming up blank. There's a good comeback there somewhere, I just can't see it.

Tell you what, come to Hallet and I'll have an answer for you.

I found that the schrader valve kept getting stuck in the intake, so I cut it off with a dremel and put some scotch tape over the hole...works pretty well so far...

Just locked to new topics. They are still setup for a serial thread like this one for instance. : ) Scroll to the bottom of the page and post. Or, I will change the configuration of the page as planned so you can post new subtopics. That would be better. Probably be good to separate the tires from the brake from the wheels too. : )

Thanks Blake... I think the 'new subtopics' would make it easier to navigate...

How about this...

We convert all Knowledge Vault main topics to a subtopic mode (rather than leaving some in a serial thread form). Gonna do that anyway, so that's cool right. Okay, then we ask that everyone preface the title of their newly created subtopics with the relevent model of Buell (XB, Blast, Cyclone) and it's model year?

So if I had a question on XB9R drive belt, I'd post the subtopic in the Knowledge Vault - Drivetrain - Secondary Drive main topic and create a subtopic entitled something like...

"2003 XB9R Drive Belt Upgrade?"

Is that asking too much?

The reason it would be GREAT to have pertinent info in the title is that it makes a BBS "Search" for the subtopic VERY quick and easy. Use the "Search" utility and set the "Look in" field to "Subject Lines", and enter "XB9R 2003 Belt Upgrade" as the keyword string. Boom, you find the posts you are looking for.

Asking too much?

One of the enhancements to the board that is planned is to make posting a new subtopic to the KV forms driven so that each user will be queeried for "Applicable Buell Model", "Model year", "Affected Part(s)/System".

Sound good?

Then we have one big sortable and easily searchable Knowledge Vault.

What you think? : )

The main reason for maintaining one all encompassing KV is that many issues are common to all or at least multiple Buell platforms.

Blake,

I wonder how difficult/expensive it would be to get someone modify the Posting Entry Box? Meaning this puppy;

I'm not seeing what that would add in the way of functionality. With our SQL database BadWeB can search the entire text of every post on the board in seconds. What does a "subject" line for each and every post do to enhance that?

Blake, that sounds good to me... I"ve found a lot of good info on this site and appreciate it... That would make it easier to find what you're looking for or if you'd like to read that thread or not... I've looked at the 'Quick Board' a couple of times and the main thing I remember is it was a long serial thread with many topics, etc... Like I said I've just looked a couple times... : ) It looked like a BS section to me... Not that there's anything wrong with that... : )

Forcing posters to enter specific search criteria fields with each of "their" messages (subject and keywords) makes them think a little about their posting/replies and helps manage topic drift immensely. It also efficiently allows cleaning up the database. On my system, end-users would put the word ERASEME in the subject or as a keyword for general type postings and an automated event (ran monthly or whenever I wanted it to run) would purge the database of those types of messages (based on specific words). It would also allow me to MOVE groups of message to the proper TOPIC in an automated event based on the subject and a keyword. Dunno, there's a butt-load of advantages that I see in a system that searches on message keywords and subjects to manipulated data instead of searching an entire database for irrelevant search parameters. Guess you had to be there to apprecaite it. <grin>

Kevin,
That was exactly the intent of the Quick Board. A free topic driven talk about anything you like part of the forum.

Jim,
I see your point. I would help to deal with all the posts that wander off topic or those that are posted in the wrong topic.

I don't think it is doable in the current release of the software. Well, we might be able to trick it. Simply put it at the top of the post in the same data field as the message.

What might be even simpler is to simply force new topic posters to select the applicable category before posting and if they select "technical" while posting a new topic to the Quick Board, then have them sent there instead.

That's fancy stuff. Good idea though. BBR?
