I know there was a composition change but has anyone actually polished the 08-09 header? Did it rust afterward?

I polished mine last night but I have an 03. I can say if you do this I would cover the engine with masking paper or something. The polish I used was really hard to get off the black texture of the engine. YMMV...

Hes talking 08-09 headers. Well you'll have to bring down the coating by sanding it first then work you way down the ladder to fine wet sanding. Thing is I understand the quality of the stainless on the 08-09 headers is not as good as earlier years so you may see alittle bit more rusting going on then I do on my 04 header. Either way though it sounds like you have the issue none the less so do it up if you ask me.

Hence why I said "...but I have an 03"

I think my other piece of advice is relevant regardless of year.

I polish my 03 as well. Really don't need to cover anything if careful. Any polish that you get on black cases can easily be removed with some WD-40 or in my case I use Honda contact cleaner. Relax Zatco!!

I'm relaxed...just sayin. Thanks for the tip on the WD-40, I'll try that, soapy water didn't work.

My headers, studs, nuts and muffler . . . at 2,000 miles . . . are not looking "very stainless".

They don't look the best but I'm getting them coated this winter so I didn't want to put a lot of time into them. They look good enough until coating.

those look better than coating. once coated the appearance won't be as brilliant as what you have pictured above....

There are, many....grades of stainless steel.
Some more resistant to corrosion than others. The more restant..the higher the cost.

5967 miles on my 08XT. Here's the muffler.

It has a couple of little dings in it. I'm not complaining, it was a free replacement. The dealer did re-use my three straps, but put a new clamp on the front where the header hooks up. I kind of think it was a takeoff they had sitting on a shelf, but like I said, I don't care for free. I need to get it off before winter for some extra paint.
