I was wondering how many Buell riders from Australia we have on this forum and how hard is it for you guys to get parts and the bike that you want. Maybe this has been asked before and maybe n one cares, but do you get th Buell Blast down where you are at? A curious chord struck me today to find out how well you are being supplied down there and I decided to look up bikes and dealers online. Please reply if you feel so inclined and G'day!

Go to www.buell.com and look for this at the bottom of the screen:

Select the country you want to see and it will show you what's available there. I like to look at gear from Canada and the UK occasionally, sometimes there's some items we don't get here in the US.

Been a member for three and a half years or so (it was lurking around this forum that got me into trouble in the first place).

I'm in Melbourne and within 25 miles of three different Buell dealers so basic service parts (oil, filters, spark plugs) are no problem.

Almost anything else has to be ordered. I have bought parts from Appleton a few times (in fact if something has to come from the HD Australian warehouse to my dealer it is quicker to get it airmail from the US!).

I try to support my selling dealer by ordering spares through them (we have had our moments but have an excellent working relationship - I'm usually in there every Saturday morning and know the sales, service and parts guys by first name) but if they have to order via HD Australia it takes 8 to 12 weeks to get the bits from the US,

I love my Ulysses with a passion and because I ride it every day I rely on it and need parts quickly so I have my very own private Buell shop in the garage to make up for the lack of Buell support here. My current emergency stash includes:

Drive Belt
Fan
Clutch Cable
Throttle Cables
Clutch Lever
Front Brake lever
Gear Change Lever
Oil Filters
Primary inspection cover gaskets
Air Filter
Fork Seals
Fork Bushes
Wheel Bearings (Rear - just used the front ones)
Brake Pads

I'm sure that will be considered over the top but in three and a half years of riding and 82,000km on my Uly I haven't been off the road waiting for parts.

As for getting the bikes we want that is a different story.
HD Australia have stopped bringing in the X models and our only option is the XT. A real shame because I would like to get another Buell at the end of this year (when this one hits 100,000km I will retire it from daily duty and would have bought a new X in a heartbeat.

I have never seen a Blast here but I couldn't say for certain whether or not they were ever officially imported.
We have a very passionate Buell community here but in my limited experience through the ownership of my Ulysses there is very poor commitment displayed by HD Australia for the marque. When I popped the first belt on my Uly at about 43,000km I was staggered to find there wasn't a spare in the country. There would have been dozens imported by that stage and to not have a single spare was unforgivable. I had my own spare but the warranty replacement took 12 weeks,

One thing I think HD Australia could offer as a value add to customers would be the option of an uplift to have the parts delivered from the US by air. At one stage I wanted a front isolator because mine had split and wasn't something I had forecast for my private stock. My options at the time were to wait for 8-12 weeks for HD Australia to get it in by rowboat or ring Appleton and have it on my doorstep in 5 days. Not a tough choice when you rely on the bike as transport.

Add to that the fact the price from Appleton plus the air freight was still less than what I would pay over the counter here. The HD mark-up on spares is a little over the top - probably up to 100% over what I see the guys in the US pay on most things. I still buy a lot here simply to support my dealer and their business but I think HD Australia could do with a real shake-up. I am a manager in Customer Service in the IT industry and have been for many years - if we treated treated warranty and service issues like HD Australia does I'm sure I would have been let go years ago.

The problem is that the Uly is such a great thing to ride that I put up with some of this other stuff.
