Add me to the list of "Bad bearing Ulys" Mine is an '06, 13K miles. Had to U-haul it home, 275 miles. Left side went bad, hub was full of water, a lot of water. Since it is out of warranty, I don`t know weather to bring it to the dealer so they can install the black seal bearings, or spend the big bucks and buy the SKF bearings and do it myself. Will Buell make good on a bike out of warrant? This seams to be quite a problem for Uly owners. I have read a lot of the threads here and don`t know which rout to take. Don`t want to get stuck again in a U-hual. | ||

Motorfish- you'd get many more responses posting this in the Big, Bad, & Dirty forum. I wouldn't expect Buell to take care of this but it never hurts to ask. Take it in to the dealer and have them look at it. If they say it's out of warranty/tough luck, ask them to call Buell. If they still say no, call Customer Service yourself and politely explain the problem. Note that Buell obviously knows there is an issue because they went to the trouble to come up with better wheel bearings. Maybe Buell will do something to help even if they don't do it for free. If it was me, I'd buy the factory black seal bearings. I say that because IIRC we've seen at least one failure of a set of SKFs which means they aren't a guaranteed fix. YMMV. | ||

I should of known to post it there, Duh, on my part. Since the SKFs are failing also, I may as well try bringing it to the Dealer, and hope Buell helps me out. From all the reading I have been doing on this site, it seems that the seals are exposed to dirt and water and water in the hub compounds this. The extra belt tension can`t be good either. Motorfish- I think I've only seen one reported failure of SKFs. I'm sure they're better than the originals but I'm just saying they're not a guaranteed cure. That may just indicate that proper installation has more to do with it than the bearings themselves. OTOH, I haven't seen a reported failure of the new black seal bearings yet... |
