I have a leak from the inspection cover on the primary cover. It started leaking after a being serviced. After inspection I decided to get a new gasket being that it was only $1.70. The gasket seems to have a puffy side and a more flat side. When I took the old gasket off the puffy side was facing out to the back side of the inspection cover, with the flat side facing the primary cover. Could this gasket have been installed backwards or does it even matter which way it goes on? How should I install the new gasket? | ||

I think that I may have answered my own question. From looking closely at the surface of the inspection cover and surface on the primary where the gasket will be, I think that the puffy side will seal the best facing the primary cover. | ||

I believe that the one I took off looked similar to Froggy's but it is hard to tell form a picture that doesn't show both sides. One side of the gasket is definitely more puffy than the other. The impression on the gasket in the picture is form the inspection cover, it is not smooth on the back side so there is not a full surface contact. The surface for the gasket to mate to on the primary cover is flat/smooth except for the inspection hole. I installed the more puffy side facing the primary cover inspection hole to get a better seal. I rode about 1 1/2 hours yesterday with no leaks. I checked it today and still no sign of leaking. I hope it stays that way. |
