So, i finally had the headlight cans replace under the recall...
1.5 hour drive to the dealer and a 3 hour wait for the to do the work after they told me it would take 40 min and i set up a time 10 days ago. that kind o ticked me off, but at least its done and i had an excuse to eat at the waffle house!!!

so on the ride there and back.... the temp here is currently running in the 90s with it indexed into the 100s i think the fan stayed on for 1/2 the trip. A good portion of the ride the speed limit was 55-70 and i was running 70-80. I started getting kind of hot in the nut sack area after 45 min of riding. i thought this usually happened during city driving? or does this happen to everyone? maybe the high temps...

Just had the head light recall done myself. Night and day difference. They work better than the Aluminum foil I had stuffed in them and are much better than the lights that came on the bike new. Yeah, the heat is almost unbearable on a hot day in the city stop light after stop light. You gotta keep her moving to get any relief.

I have a 2005 XB9R, and I remember getting a postcard regarding the recall, but I don't have the card anymore. Can I still get the recall taken care of? Or did I have to have the card to get it done?

DOT regulations, this time they work in your favor, Schmitty. All you need to do is call up your friendly local dealer, and let them know that you have a bike under the recall. They have a VIN database to confirm that the repair has not been done yet, and are required by law to service your machine... even without a card.

I dont think this is really a recall. the card i had says its not a safety issue, and there is a time limit on getting it done. So if you havent had this done and want it go do it.

>>>I dont think this is really a recall.

That is accurate. There were NO recalls on the 2004 XB9R.

It is a product improvement program.

Check with your dealer to see if it is still in effect.

The letter says "Firebolt models have a reflective material which can potentially degrade over time and reduce light output." Sounds pretty unsafe to me. Unless you only ride during the day, at which you don't need headlights anyways.

As for calling it a "product improvement program," to be honest that sounds a lot like a load of BS. Don't beat around the bush, cause I'll cut the Mother F***er down. It's a RECALL. They are seeking all Firebolts affected, they wanted to know if I had sold my bike and who the new owner was.

I do appreciate Buell coming out and taking care of this safety issue. I just wish that I didn't have to take my bike to Harley, because I don't know what is more unsafe. Riding around with useless headlights or letting Harley try to figure out how to mess your bike up fixing it. You will also get to listen to them gripe when you say that you want to wait for a 1hr service. One that you make an appointment for. LOL

Just to let you know I did have this fixed earlier this spring. Only to get home and find that my lights were in the wrong spot and not even adjusted. So prepare yourself to redo anything that gets touched.

There has got to be another Buel/HD dealer in the state. In fact there are 6 HD dealers in Louisiana that sell and service Buells.

In MN, Twin City Harley used to be the premier dealer of the entire state. They no longer sell Buell. I've spoken with tons of HD guys and this is the last place they would bring their bike to.

Just because you've had a bad experience at one shop, doesn't mean they are all like that. It just means the shop you went to has hired some very bad service personell.

Don't hate the game, hate the player.

there are 3 dealers within 2.5 hours of me. the one i went to was the closest at 1.5 hours away. They did a good job, profesional, my only gripe is they made me sit around. May even go back to them for service again later. Their policy is to work on bike sold there before others... Cant blame em.

That's bogus, but policy is policy? The dealer I go to ST Paul HD, doesn't even take appointments. It's first come first serve. I think the policy sucks, but what do ya do?

Also, I thout Denista's post was written by you. He seems very hostile. You don't.

I'm not hostile, just disgusted with HD service. BTW I have been to both nearby Buell dealers, each one at least and hour away and I can say that I would never buy there or recommend them for anything. Next time I will try F&S in Dayton. Hopefully I won't need to take my bike in for another recall though.
