Hello all!

So I have not had any problems with my bike until yesterday. I was riding it home last night and it starts surging. Almost like it was not getting fuel at certain points and was really low on power. I noticed that the lights were dimming and coming back brighter and continued to do this. Then the red engine light came on. The light only stayed on a short period of time and it does happen in all gears (at least 3rd and 5th) but the surging continues across the whole tranny. Not to sound ridiculous, but is this light for heat issues or does it work like a check engine light? Either way, something is amiss and I was curious if anyone else has had this issue before. The model is an 04 XB12R and it has the Buell factory Race Kit. Don't know if it is necessary to put that, but maybe it is fuel problem, electrical, I have no idea! Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is no redline light, you might be talking about the check engine light.

Do a search on here for 77 connector, and stator issues. There is a lot of good info, I would check the 77 connector first.

Just read up on it. I'm going to do all the tests I can on the battery and regulator and then check the 77 connector! Thanks for the info and I'll try to post to keep folks updated. I know how important it is to get the follow up and it will come. I am just slow about it sometimes.

Stick with simple stuff first: check your battery leads, check the 2 grounds to the frame. Check your sparkplug wires.

When you start your bike, that red light comes on for about four seconds and then goes off. If it comes on again or starts blinking, the computer is telling you what the problem is likely to be.

What does the light do when you start?
