It DOES have some electrical going into the exhaust?!?
I'm not sure what it is. Is that the "interactive exhaust" tv shop manual talks about?
Either way, it's outta my hands now. |

Only XB12 models have the interactive exhaust. |

It was an xb9 converted to an xb12. Is it possible that it now has interacive exhaust to go with the rest of the 1200 kit? I know tv exhaust has a port in the rear header with wires goin into it. |

Take off your airbox cover and see if you have the servo. |

This probobly sounds stupid, but what does it look like? There IS some sort of sensor in my airbox, not sure exactly what it is, though. |

Jake you're thinking of the IAT sensor. The exhaust servo sits on top of the airbox. |

Ahhhh well, the only thing on top of the airbox is the overflow line. |

Nope I don't got it.
In fact, I got nothin!!!! I bought this bike 200 miles ago and it's blowing a fuse for no reason.
-My buddy who runs electrical an all the bikes he builds (defiantstudios.com) check 'em out.
He checked all of the wires/harnesses, ect. And didn't find anything loose or exposed.
-MotoPrimo told me to f-off!!
-Toxic cycles of Savage checked it over and found nothing.
The only constant in the ignition fuse blowing is that it "might" do it when I'm not at full throttle. It's blown at zero throttle, clutch engaged, not engaged, 1-5th gears, stopped while running, stopped while not running. I try and duplicate what im doing when it pops, but then it won't pop. Next time I get it running I feel like ghost riding it off the new 35W bridge.
W T F!!!!????!!!!
I'm bringing it to St Paul HD again tomorrow (in my truck) and I now have zero expectations. I shoulda bought a different bike. This is just plain stupid!! |

If I remember correctly, you bought this bike recently.
Talk to the seller. See what he knows and what fixes he tried. No use in trying what he already tried.
You have to approach it correctly to get any info from him. Make it clear that you are not accusing him of anything, just need information so you can get your bike running correctly. |

I'm calling him tomorrow. I found him on here. Since he sold it, though, he's been gone (not on badweb). He seemed like a stand up guy and like you said Macdiver, if I approach him the right way, he should be cool about it.

Jake. You say its an '03 so it should be a Firebolt. If its a Lightning manufacture '03 does it have the headlights wired so that both bulbs are on on high beam. The mod that does that connects the headlight through the running light wiring and that goes through the ignition fuse.
Lots of speculation here. |

its a firebolt with. just got the headlight recall done.......fuse was fine for about 130 miles before the headlights got done and blew about 70 miles after it was done...........
hmmmmm, coincidence? |

I was wrong about the Lightning, They were made in '03 as well. I had a small memory hemorrhage there, so it isn't the lights either.
The running light goes through the key switch fuse not the ignition fuse.
Perhaps a faulty ignition relay. Or a rubbed wire.
The ignition fuse is between the key switch relay and the ignition relay. from the ignition relay what I can see on the wiring diagram are the RH and LH bar switches, the injectors and coils, fuel pump and bank angle sensor.
Fuel pumps blowing fuses have been reported. There are a few BadWeb threads on this. |

Jakecheez I would seriously look under your front fairing.When they did my light recall even after I said not to they completely cut and pinched wires and ruined MANY,MANY things on my bike.They are the reason my bike doesent have custom paint any more....Thanks for screwing me "Harley-Davidson/Buell of Fort Myers, FL"....

Jeez!!
Well, it's a little late at this point, cuz my bike is at the same dealership that did the recall. I told them it started popping fuses within 30miles from when the recall was done.
They are "looking into it".
I'll know Monday or Tuesday. I'll post an update as soon as I know what's up. |

I've got an '04 Lightning that had a shorted wire right at the horn under the front fairing/flyscreen. The wire had rubbed the horn bracket and wore a VERY SMALL hole thru the insulation. I must have gone thru 15 fuses until I found it.
Some blew before I got out of the driveway, some blew 25 miles down the road.
Mine seemed to only blow the fuse when I turned right....sometimes.....electrical gremlins are the worst to track down. |

yes they are! i wish i checked that before i dropped it off....or did i check it? I dont even know anymore.....it's just a waiting game for the dealership to rack up a bill.
BTW- i had all the plastics off when i brought it in and asked if they wanted me to leave them with the service guys. he said no, but when i asked if he would test drive it after he "fixed" it, he said only if the plastics are on. so in order for me to get a bike back that is surely fixed, i have to pay an additional $100+ in labor for them to do something that i could do in 20 minutes! frustrating to go with the other frustrations this "gremlin" of a problem has caused me. all in all- 2/3 weeks of premium riding, gone and who knows how much $$$$$? |
